Cumberbatch was hilarious in Starter for Ten, terrifying in Atonement, asshole genius who fails at human interaction in Sherlock. So like i get why he gets hired.

my tweet this morning:
as dumb as it is they're not lying when they say stovens' celebrity-ness is quickly growing in the states
and then I was busy at a meeting and then found I'd gotten more responses to it than I'd expected so this is me trying to clarify and respond back and using tumblr instead of twitter replies because I can be touchy with my tweets/tweet count. also keep in mind that I had a much-weirder-than-normal night and tweeted that just ten minutes after I woke up. that's not a legitimate excuse now that I'm writing this but whatever.
As it's twitter with 140 characters and I wasn't bothered to try to include everything I was thinking in one tweet with the few minutes I had I didn't include that his celebrity status is growing, even though it's not at all A-list. And my definition of celebrity is probably much looser and more superficial in that no, nobody really knows him outside of Downton and yes, if you mentioned his name randomly they would ask "who?" and you'd have to clarify "Matthew from Downton Abbey" but in what I've seen, isn't that kind of thing the same for a lot of other celebrities? especially TV ones. I guess some of you wouldn't call them celebrities either. Which brings me back to me having a looser definition. Also I'm around teenage girls a lot who have fangirling tendencies and for me, somebody who has enough status to have people like him like that is celebrity enough.
Like I agree with all your responses but I don't see how all that has to be exclusive to whether or not you're a celebrity. And I did say "quickly growing" not that he is a great celebrity because getting more well known because of Downton and various sparse media is still becoming more well known. so I stand with my original point, they're not lying.
