A warm, cloudless day welcomed us as we arrived in Washington, D.C. 2 weekends ago for Capital Funk’s 6th Annual Showcase, “Funk Academy". The show was held at George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium and featured various talented members of the DMV dance community (as well as a fellow NYC dance crew!) and a slew of amazing musicians and spoken word artists (shoutouts to the homie Drew Law- his work was my personal favorite). The audience's energy was through the roof - and was constant in its intensity. So much love could be felt during the show, and it was clear all the dancers and performers fed off of it- we sure did!
"Do it well bad girls, do it well."
This performance held particular significance, as it was our last time performing our very first set as Funkanometry NY. This set was our baby, and though we retired it that weekend in D.C., it marked a major milestone in our journey together as a company. Huge THANK YOU again to our friends in Capital Funk for having us be a part of such an incredible show and for being such kind hosts.
Last time performing our very first set!
It was a pleasant change of scenery spending time in D.C. for the weekend exploring and admiring the monuments, museums, and the homie Obama's house (some on Funks have never been!). I've personally been to D.C. plenty of times, but it still blows my mind how clean it is. I suppose being our nation's capital has a little bit to do with it? Also, the length of time given to cross the street (60 seconds for half an NYC block!?), you could do laps before the time ran out!
Multi-angle metro memories
Some good-lookin' people on an escalator
Samm and Leslie doing some pre-performance juicin'
Mikey with a plate of cookies and his beard- what more could one ask for?
Getting ready in our dressing room
DevDukes at the hotel enjoying a post after party meal of a burger wrapped in a jumbo "torso" pizza
WIth a memorable weekend of dance, music, bonding time, and ratchet parking garage after parties (seriously, this party was wild- ask anyone that went, there was a giant dog in the freestyle cypher at one point!) behind us, we're excited for what lies in the weeks ahead.
So where can you see us next?
Saturday, May 25th at Terminal 5
