It's easy to forget who you were in the past
It's easier since it feels like two years had passed
But in reality, it was only one.
It's easy to forget what you once faced
Easier to say you cannot recalibrate
It feels like the world is bearing down on you
And it's like you're all alone.
It's harder now to make sense of it all
Make sense of leaving, of returning, of traveling at all
It feels easier and harder just to stay inside
To stay safe; to keep away and hide.
The world is different, as they always say
The world is just the same, be it as it may
The curtains have peeled back and people have started realizing
The lights are all flickered on but the shadows are still revealing
It's easy to forget who you were in the past
Whether in school or work; Whether good or bad
It's easy to call yourself learned and understanding
But it's also very hard to know what you're consuming
It's harder now to know good from the bad
To see what's happening; to pick apart what is had
It's easier and harder to find out what's been happening
That is if you don't mind the million false resources
The world is different things have changed, it isn't like it was before
The world is just the same people, especially now that we're indoors
The curtains have peeled back, everyone shown in technicolor
Shown for themselves or painted on, but everyone is now seeing.
It's easy to forget who you were in the past
It's easier now since we cannot see as we have
Painted faces, neon lights;
Pretend friendships ending in virtual fistfights
Everyone is on a screen smaller than in reality
It's much easier to fake perspective when you aren't actually here to see
Everyone is presented in LED's
No feeling or touching; Nothing gets past the usual "parasocially"
There's a reason we watch friends meet up
We see their fun and want in on;
There's a reason we fall in love with those who hang out
It's the want for comfort, something we are without;
"I love you," loses meaning;
It means that they are the only ones there for you
They love you because you are there
But who you are; they know not
I wonder if it's because I'm growing older that I think of these things
How it's easy to forget who I was during spring
How "I love you's" from those I don't know mean so much
How I await for someone to "go live" or "starting soon" and as such
I wonder if it's because of how long I've spent inside
That I need to learn the new lingo of how to say what I feel inside
how /j and /pos and /neg have come about
how understanding needed more to be understood now
I wonder if it's because I don't go online often
Staying on my little path which I have always walked in
I wonder if that's why I'm surprised by every new topic
That seems to explode even after everyone says "stop it"
It's easy to forget who you were in the past
Donning a new persona like changing clothes
It's easy to manipulate how you look outside
Especially now, now that many are trapped inside
It's easy to forget how everyone is different
Easier still to pretend that there's only one way
Of learning; of coping; of understanding
The online world, a large echo chamber that's hard to get through
Perhaps I'll understand some other time
Perhaps all we need is to go out again
Perhaps some rest; perhaps some time
Perhaps tomorrow I'll remember who I am
