Toothless was sat at the edge of the forests of berk, the edge of the cliff looking off into the ocean surrounding him. He was content to just lie there for a while, but his mind was racing from the previous days. The beast, the inner Night Fury he had always struggled to control, it had been brought out by the instinct of command under the hive mind, and there was no way he could have stopped it.
He killed Hiccup's father.
Just... just like that. Gone. All peaceful instincts he had gained over several years; just a flash and they were gone. All he knew was how to destroy. He nearly killed his best friend. His bud.
He scratched a paw over his eyes and then found his face to be very itchy, rubbing his claws over his scales over and over as if to relieve the intensity of it. Too much, too much, too much.
The beast was supposed to be controlled. It was supposed to be locked away, only brought out when truly needed, and only directed towards hostile enemies. Not... not his family.
To think that a King Dragon could command him to do such a task at any given time, at any given person. Though the Kings were gone, the very fact that his temper could be controlled by an outside force gave him a feeling he coujldn't shake away.
Toothless was afraid.
And while he was forgiven, courtesy of Hiccup himself, he couldn't help but feel the tug in the depths of his stomach. Because forgiveness wouldn't bring Stoic back. Wouldn't undo what instinct a Night Fury always carries, even when the dragon's eyes are wide, playful, and peaceful. Deep inside there is an instinct to kill, with vicious bloodlust and gory taste.
He covered his eyes with his large paws and lay there until sundown. He lay there until Hiccup came with a light heart and a friendly air, and reminded the dragon that nothing that happened was his fault.
Unexpected-- Human!Toothless/Merida RP (for the lovely anon)
Merida walked leisurely down the cobblestone street, smiling politely at those that she passed. It was a fall day in DunBroch, with a bite in the air and puffs of breath when someone breathed. The trees were lovely hues of red to orange and gold and every shade in between. But still, it was a little chilly. She pulled her cloak about her a little tighter and made her way through the market.
The Fall Market was one of Merida's favorite things to do in the autumn. All the best craftsmen and women of Scotland gathered together to sell their wares, accompanied with lovely music and dances and delightful food. It was a great way to bid farewell to the warmth of summer and welcome the new season.
Merida's head snapped around as she saw a familiar face sitting behind a woodcarving booth-- a wizened old woman with a mass of oddly shaped hair sat petting a big black bird, surrounded by carvings of bears. The archeress paused in her stroll, her blue eyes making contact with the witch's knowing ones, and she nodded once. The witch smiled back, and Merida sighed before resuming her walk.
After noticing the witch, Merida realized that there were a number of faces she did recognize. Most were her parents subjects, and others were visiting craftsmen and market go-ers. She smiled to servants who had the day off and nodded to her Mum's royal dress maker and--
SMACK! Merida, too busy looking everywhere and at everything than right in front of her, hadn't noticed the boy directly in front of her and had walked straight into him.
"Oh, Ah'm so sorry!" she exclaimed, pushing her hair out of her eyes. She looked up to smile apologetically. "Ah should'a been watching where Ah was goin'."
Being bound and held prisoner wasn't exactly at the top of Jack's to do list. With a great deal of struggle, he'd managed to turn his head so that he was now facing Toothless, his cheek pressed to the cold, hard ground. The dragon looked defeated, and he couldn't blame him.
"Toothless?" he called out quietly, trying to wriggle at least a hand free from the rope, but it wasn't of any use. Growing frustrated, he glanced around quickly, his eyes filled with increased worry in search for his staff. Seeing it resting against the wall nearby, he let out a sigh of relief. Diverting his attention back to the dragon, his brows furrowed. "Toothless!" he yelled now, hoping the beast would wake up.
