Useless rpg recs. RPGS I look forward to (coming out in 2025, 2026 or the unknown future)
Prometheus Wept: sci-fi cyberspace, turn-based combar, isometric rpg with party. The release date for early access only is in less than a week (13 June 2025). From what I can tell you create the whole party, instead of recruiting. If this is the case, I will probably not keep following it.
The Way of Wrath: isometric rpg, you can choose different origins, set in viking age or at least an older ice-related age (sorry). You lead your tribe, which also has characters with single quests and stories. The date for release is set up in 2025.
Esoteric EBB: isometric rpg with dialogue choices with dice rolls.. turn based combat. Fantasy, you play alongside your goblin sidekick and you are sent to investigate the destruction of a shop. This game is one of the most promising, in my opinion, especially because it seems really focused on story.
Grave Seasons: pixel rpg, with farming crafting and (queer) romance. You play as an escaped ex-prison con starting a new life and having to investigate some mysterious grousome murders. This is another one I will probably immediately buy on release.
Legends of the Round Table: rpg mixed with visual novel with turn based combat, currently only the demo is out and the date of release is unknown. You play as (from what I can tell) different arthurian knights. As an arthurian enthusiast I will definitely buy this. There seems to be romance (Gawain and Ragnelle, Lancelot and Guinevere), not sure if it is by choice or just following the story of arthurian matter.
Banquet of Fools: Party based fantasy isometric rpg. It looks like you recruit companions as the focus seems to be on increasing bonds with them. Real time combat. The early access version is already out.
Rue Valley: Rpg that seems inspired by Disco Elysium, dialogue choice, you play as a fixed protagonist. Set in modern times, the protagonist is locked in a time loop. His personality can be customized and you explore and unlock memories. Not sure when it is coming out, but it is published by Owlcat Games and it seems story focused so I will definitely check this out.
Fallen Gods: isometric rogue-lite rpg, fantasy/historical-like world. You play as a fallen god trying to reclaim the Cloudlands. It seems to be focused on choices and consequences, and from the pics there seems to be companions but I cannot tell if they are created by you or npcs.
Stygian: Outer Gods: Look, I really loved the first game (maybe not a popular opinion), it was creepy and quite fun. This is also set in a Lovecraftian 1800s world. It is an action rpg with combat, and if it is similar to game one it has a lot of story, some characters (no companions or romance) and some choices and consequences. And a lot of creepy horror settings and quests. Early access just came out.
Death Trash: Early access has been out forever, but it does not look abandoned so it is still here. Horror-like, with combat, pixel isometric rpg.
The Expanse: Osiris Reborn: Sci fi space action rpg by Owlcat Games. With companions, romance, choices and consequences. While this is the first action rpg by Owlcat Games, if they keep their signature game features it will have a lot choices, dialogues and consequences, recruitable companions and queer romances.
Clockword Revolution: First person steampunk action rpg. I added it because it is created by the studio who made Tides of Numenera.
Exanima: Cautiously added it here as it has been in early access for about 10 years. Reviews seem all positive, but not sure about the likelihood that it will be finalized. Isometric rpg focused on combat and characters, but I have not played it.
Warhammer: Dark Heresy: Isometric rpg in the warhammer (sci fi, space) universe. It is by owlcat games so I fully expect a focus on party companions, optional turn based combat, queer romance, lots of storytelling, choices and consequences.
Fable: Not sure this needs an introduction! Action rpg, humorous
Solasta 2: Fantasy party based isometric rpg. Admittedly I did not enjoy game 1, I thought it was lacking in characters (you create your own companions) and story. It was more a way to play table top games in videogame form, still I will try and see if more personalities are added to the companions here (in game 1 you could add personalities to your made companions).
New Arc line: THIS IS THE ONE I AM WAITING FOR THE MOST. Early access came out last year and I might actually buy it. Action rpg, steampunk, party based, choices based and story based. Every time I see this I keep thinking about Arcanum of Steamworks of Magick Obscura. You recruit your companions and it seems to be fully voiced.
The Outer Worlds 2: Coming out October 2025. While I enjoyed the first one I was not in love with it, still, I love Obsidian games so I will definitely check out this one. Action rpg with companions (probably no romance), set in space.
