TSA_PDF 017: Future Bodies
TSA_PDF 017: Future Bodies
curated by Carl Baratta & Grimoire
January 16 - 31
Tiger Strikes Asteroid is excited to announce Future Bodies, the latest installment of TSA_PDF, a unique project that tackles how we look at art in the current reality of pandemic and social distancing. This project creates small curated group shows that exist in PDF format which are available for download on a pay-what-you-wish basis with a $1 minimum. All TSA_PDF proceeds go to an artist relief fund. You can print out and install the Exhibition images in the space of your choosing. We share images of these installations on social media as they are shared with us.
Entering our second year, we look forward to partnering with even more great artists and organizations. TSA_PDF is using its online platform to extend its reach internationally. On 15 January we are looking forward to our collaborative project with Grimoire Fanzine of Tunisia. Future Bodies will be featured on our TSA_PDF Instagram account and the Grimoire Fanzine website (https://issuu.com/fanzine.grimoire).
The show title is also our word prompt which was sent out to many artists across the world. With each work we are able to see the avenues of thought explored through the diversity of individual responses. Some pieces are dark and dystopian while others are hopeful. Some work toys with time and space, as if the abstractions reveal the 4th dimensional architecture imprinted on our 3 dimensional minds. Whatever path each artist followed to reach their image, we hope that you too enjoy the journey.
Grimoire is a fanzine in a digital form, where iconographies, textures, drawings, texts, photographs, sound worlds, ideas, are gathered ... This journal is a composite of “oeuvres” that we deem visionary, avant gardists, macabre and deeply imaginative ... It is a gathering for the “Practitioners of the Dark Art” to display a collection of heterogeneous formulas of possible worlds conquered by them, ciphered in a disturbing, provocative, dense and unrestrained content.
Grimoire is a “recueil d’oeuvres”, a collection of works that we perceive as visionary, avant-gardists, deeply imaginative, obscure and macabre. Throughout history, artists who have been exploring the obscure path have been marginalized and under-valued, regarded as odd and “unconventional”, even among the artsphere itself. And despite the gems they create after diving and daring to go where no one else could, reflecting the depth of mankind and the threshold of the imaginary, these artists remain the most unseen.
We believe the artists and the practitioners of the macabre art to be one of the pillars of culture. They constitute the layer that elevates our perception into new realms of the imaginary, a layer we need in this time of division, anxiety and despair. Thus, it becomes imperative for us to act and contribute with what humble means we have, into the expansion and the diffusion of any form of art practice or discipline that uses imagination, vision or intuition that explores the limits of the world, and questions materialist assumptions about mankind, spirituality, technology, the human mind and all the most vital issues of our lives.
TSA_PDF is a series of printable exhibitions curated by Tiger Strikes Asteroid. People are invited to download and print these works on their home printers and share their “install shots,” which we will share on social media and our website. We view these exhibitions as a fun, experimental way to bring something physical and meaningful into people’s homes as they socially distance.
