𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐎𝐃𝐔𝐂𝐈𝐍𝐆… 𝐌𝐘 𝐁𝐈𝐆 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 𝐑𝐔𝐒𝐇 𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐆𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐄𝐑, 𝐊𝐀𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐈 𝐀𝐊𝐀𝐍𝐀-𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐍

❝ Kalani Akana-Chen was decidedly not like most of the other teen residents of the Palm Woods. For one, they weren’t the product of a so called stage parent, pushy and overbearing and wanting their child to be successful at any cost whatsoever; their dad was very laid-back and supportive as a parent, having been behind Kalani’s dreams of pop-punk stardom the whole way, having willingly moved the two of them to Los Angeles and done his best to get them far with their music while still grieving his poor wife, who had died when Kalani was eight. On top of that, Kalani simply didn’t fit the sunny and pretty vibe that most people out here had - with their died hair, colourful makeup, and outfits straight off an Avril Lavigne album cover, they definitely tended to stick out like a sore thumb among their Palm Woods peers.

Logan Mitchell didn’t really fit the mould of a Los Angeles teenager reaching for entertainment stardom, either. Though he had to admit that living at the Palm Woods and being part of a boy band with his best friends was turning out to be fun, it certainly wasn’t what he’d envisioned for himself - heck, he’d been dreaming about being a doctor since he was just a little kid, and though he hadn’t really given up that ambition, it was definitely on the back burner for a bit. And even besides that, he wasn’t any good at interacting with people the way his friends were. He wasn’t endearing like Carlos or a cool guy like James or even charmingly down-to-earth like Kendall; he was painfully awkward, especially around pretty people, and he went on nerdy rambles that even his lifelong pals didn’t like to listen to, and because of that nothing ever really… worked out for him in the social department, much less the romantic one.

Due to all of these facts, it almost feels like a miracle when Kalani winds up getting pulled into the almost daily shenanigans of Big Time Rush and they and Logan connect. Suddenly, Logan has someone who is actually fascinated by his nerdy talk, and Kalani has someone who always brings a host gift for their dad when he comes over for dinner and actually does research on alternative culture to understand their look rather then giving them weird glances for it. They almost seem like a match made in Heaven… but of course, nothing is ever simple at the Palm Woods, life and relationships always getting into big messy tangles, and there is a very good chance that Kalani and Logan’s story will end in a big time disaster before it ever truly gets started. ❞

Amara Castro ᯽ Make It Count

As a hopeful author, rather than an aspiring movie star or singer, Amara was something of an oddity in the Palm Woods. She was also an oddity in the fact that, unlike most of the Palm Woods residents her age who always strived to hang out with each other in between competing for roles and contracts, she preferred to stay in the apartment she lived in with her older siblings, keeping her own company. It was better that way, she figured; the less time she spent making friends, the less risk of being asked questions about her parents or why she lived with her siblings in the first place. But of course, nothing in life ever really turns out like you’d like it to, and almost against her will, Amara finds herself being pulled into the antics of the boy band who have recently moved into the Palm Woods. And though she’s reluctant at first, she starts to find that, just maybe, letting down your guard and making true friends isn’t all that bad… especially when one of those friends is a bold leader with floppy hair and a bright smile, who makes Amara feel things she thought might only exist in her stories.

Lily Belle Robicheaux ᯽ Heart Like a Truck

Lily Belle was not meant to be a pop star. Hailing from Baton Rogue did not immediately disqualify her, of course - it wasn’t as if someone from a Southern state couldn’t achieve pop stardom, just look at Beyoncé - but that just simply wasn’t her. The twangs of steel guitars had echoed in her soul since she was just a toddler being bounced on her mother’s hip in the kitchen while Waylon Jennings blasted from the radio, she knew the lyrics to all of Shania Twain’s songs better than she knew her own name. It was her destiny to be the next queen of country music, she could feel it in her bones and in her blood. And yet, here she was, living in the famous Palm Woods in Los Angeles, indeed working her way towards becoming a pop singer. Because her daddy dearest, a failed former boy bander who’d gone from being a one hit wonder on top of the world to the tiny house Lily Belle had grown up in and divorce papers from an ex-wife who couldn’t stand him reliving his glory days anymore, was insistent that his daughter find the success that he had been denied… whether she wanted it the way it was being presented to her or not. It was under his “guidance” that Lily Belle had become the so-called Princess of the Palm Woods, putting on the image of a bubbly blonde pop phenom in the making and dating the hunky aspiring actor he pushed on her and putting on the guise of Southern royalty like they came from a good deal more money than they did. It was awful, and stifling, and it kind of made Lily Belle hate the dream of fame she really did want to chase. But her father was her father, and her mother pretty much never returned her calls anymore, and she didn’t have a single real friend at the Palm Woods, so she didn’t see a way of escaping it - until four best friends from Minnesota, a newly minted boyband under the label of a constantly-screaming maniac, crash into LA, bringing all sorts of chaos with them. And though Lily Belle’s father warns her to stay away from the boys, fearing that they will bring down the image of her he has spent so long crafting, it seems that nothing can stop the members of Big Time Rush once they’ve decided to make someone their friend and pull that person into their antics. And pulled in Lily Belle is, and quickly finds that being friends with them might just be giving her the courage to actually go after what makes her happy. Until, of course, she has to go and ruin it all by falling in love - not just with only one of the boys, but all four of them. And as things go on and get more and more complicated, relationships and career paths getting into a bunch of big tangles, Lily Belle has to question whether following her heart and the sound of the music she’s heard her whole life is really worth it after all.
