Bernie engages Gundam NT-1 in his Zaku 2 FZ, drawing it away from Ribo's residential zone as planned.

Meanwhile, Al learns that the Federation have captured the Zeon fleet that was carrying the nuclear missile, and he races to warn Bernie, desperate to stop the confrontation with the Gundam.

Al arrives just as Bernie's Zaku is impaled on one of the Gundam's beam sabers. After being blown back by the Zaku's destruction, Al is discovers the Gundam's pilot is his neighbour, Christina Mackenzie, when Federation medics lift her wounded body out of the Gundam.

Although Bernie lost his life, he was able to completely wreak Gundam NT-1, preventing its delivery to the Federation's main forces. It was intended for White Base's Newtype ace pilot, Amuro Ray.

December 13, UC 0079

Zeon forces attack Ribo, Side 6. Although Side 6 is officially neutral, Federation GMs emerge to repel the attack once Zeon mobile suits enter the colony.

During the fighting, Bernard Wiseman's MS-06FZ Zaku 2 FZ is shot down. Emerging from the crash, Bernie meets a young civilian named Alfred Izuruha, and learns that the EFF's G-4 Project has been moved to Ribo.

December 9, UC 0079

Zeon sends the commando unit Cyclops Team to attack an EFF base in the Arctic – a laboratory where the Federation are continuing their G-4 Project.

Cyclops Team arrive while the project's materials are being loaded for transfer to space, and although the Zeon veterans easily tear through the base's defenders, they are delayed long enough for the Federation shuttle to escape.

December 19, UC 0079 – 8:00 PM

Cyclops Team's cover is blown, and a firefight breaks out in the hangar of their target, the RX-78NT-1 Gundam NT-1. Captain Hardie Steiner and Gabriel Ramirez Garcia are killed before they can accomplish their mission.

The Gundam launches to engage the Kämpfer, which has arrived at the Federation base. After using up its disposable weapons eliminating Scarlet Team, the Kämpfer is left vulnerable and is quickly overwhelmed by the Gundam, resulting in the death of Mikhail Kaminsky.

Operation Rubicon ends in total failure. Bernard Wiseman is left as Cyclops Team's only survivor.

October 19, UC 0079

In the Gobi Desert, Zeon's Wolf Gar Team launches Operation Desert Dragon. Led by Captain Henry Boone, piloting an MS-08TX Efreet, they attack the EFF's Albatross Base.

The base is holding an RX-78XX Gundam Pixy –one of three identical units developed by the G-4 Project– for use by White Base in the upcoming Operation Odessa. One of the base's pilots, Captain Bork Cry, deploys in the Pixy to engage Boone and his men.

The exact outcome of the battle is unknown, except that the Pixy is unable to be delivered to White Base as intended.

Final testing of the RX-78-2 Gundam begins at Side 7.

Already impressed by the RX-78's performance, the EFF order the creation of an even more advanced Gundam, based on the untested but cutting-edge RX-78-3 G-3 Gundam. Development of the new project is assigned to Augusta Base, where the Federation has begun its own research on Newtypes.
