There... There was a ship war in Code Lyoko? Never noticed it, but that's probably because I was a child at the time LOL

I don’t blame you, I was a child as well, but... yeah, the fandom’s perception of the ships and how the show treats it are somewhat similar. To me, at least.

I mean, watching Code Lyoko, there was definitely a constant “will they won’t they” vibe between Ulrch and Yumi, which only got worse in later seasons, and even worse once William showed up. To me, there’s a lot of parallels between that and how black sun and bumbleby are treated in-show and by the fandom. (Volume 6, Sun disappears to maybe show up at a later point in the series, leaving Ulrich and Yumi to develop their relationship. Season 4, William is essentially out of the show except for fight scenes, leading to potential Bumbleby. Come on, you can’t say that’s even slightly similar.)

I mean, there are blogs dedicated to “toxic blacksun shippers” and “toxic bumbleby shippers.” If Code Lyoko was shown now, or tumblr was a few years older, I’d guarantee you that there would be a similar thing going on for “Willumi” and “Ulyumi”
