the foot (1x03)
So I finished Six Feet Under a few weeks ago. Here’s my take:
-Brenda was the absolute WORST character in my opinion. From episode 1, I could not STAND her. Now, don’t get me wrong, I tried my best to give her the benefit of the doubt, but honestly from beginning to end, she was awful. For instance, she sleeps around with a shit ton of dudes and her brother threatens her fiance on NUMEROUS occasions, but the minute Nate tells her that he slept with Lisa ONCE and she got pregnant all of a sudden it’s the end of the world?
-Now I started watching this because I knew Michael C. Hall was in it, but I didn’t wanna go in thinking I was going to LOVE his character and that he wouldn’t have flaws. I’ll be honest, I didn’t. David was so uptight in the beginning so he was lowkey annoying at first. But as the show went on, he loosened up a bit. And overall, I felt really bad for him because of how he kinda viewed himself.
-Billy was very up and down for me. I totally understand, he was mentally ill, but he was not redeemable whatsoever in the beginning and Brenda did NOT help him whatsoever. Like I get they had a traumatic life and their parents are awful and he had a mental illness. But, Billy was awful. However, when they brought him back, he was pretty wonderful and I think the distance from Brenda also helped. I’ll be honest, when him and Claire were first together, I loved their relationship. I wish it could have continued, but of course it did not and that kinda went to hell. Now like I’ve said before, I TOTALLY get that he had a mental illness and it was a very real depiction of this mental illness, but it was really hard to feel for Billy in the beginning.
-The only thing that pissed me off about Ruth was how much of a bitch she became after George came back home after getting ECT. She really treated him like an inconvenience and a burden. Now I get that George wasn’t the best once they were married, but it seemed like he had been trying SO hard once he got back, but she treated him like shit.
-Then there’s Keith. I couldn’t stand him for most of the show. Up until about the last season. He treated David like shit but then complained that David acted like a doormat. Dude, you literally are treating him like a doormat! I get David had his faults, but Keith did not deserve David whatsoever.
-The amount of times I said, “What are YOU doing here?” while watching the show was insane. The amount of guest stars on that show was insane! Also, why is it that every time Michael Weston is guest starring on a show, his character is completely AWFUL?!? Guess he’s just good at it.
-Olivier? Terrible. The worst. The show could have just not had him in it and it would have been better.
-The Chenowith parents? Horrible human beings. MOSTLY the mom. She was the most narcissistic bitch ever. Doesn’t mean I think Brenda is okay, cause she is still awful.
-Lisa? She deserved better.
-I absolutely CALLED Lisa’s sister threatening to take Maya. I’m glad they didn’t let that get too far, but I definitely called it.
-I feel like Claire should have been more understanding of Russel considering he was basically coerced by Olivier.
-I feel like there were times where Rico was terrible, but overall, he was a decent guy who was trying to support his family. Vanessa on the other hand? Could not stand her in the least. And her sister was even worse.
-Nate was overall not a terrible character in my opinion. Scared of commitment? Definitely. However, the last season he started teetering on a litle rotten. And then he died which I was definitely NOT expecting. I didn’t think the AVM was gonna come back up.
-Bettina was a good friend to be honest and Kathy Bates is always great.
-I do wish that they didn’t have some of the loose ends that there were. Like with Lisa’s brother-in-law? Nate figures shit out and then he confronts him and then he offs himself and then that’s it? Like there’s no mention really of it at all. Another sort of loose end was Gabriel. He takes off and we don’t really hear about him and then he shows up with all the dead people Claire sees. So, yea we assume he’s dead, but they just kinda threw that at us.
Overall, I really enjoyed the show and I did like the ending, even though it made me cry. I got very invested in the show and I wish it was longer than 5 seasons to be honest. Yes, there were a lot of characters I didn’t like, but the show was very enjoyable. Also, I didn’t really form much of an opinion on Nathaniel because most of his scenes were him after he was dead so it was kind of hard to see how he was as a person because we don’t really know. But I did enjoy the little scenes he would show up in. Made the show interesting seeing how everyone kind of saw him differently.
