Hear me out:

A Jennifer's Body fanfic that touches on Needy and Jennifer's complicated relationship and the struggles of comphet that also talks about Chip's struggles with it as well in a completely inversed way.

So Jennifer has this minion, and he's basically kind of an absolute dumbass, and wants to emulate Jennifer but he can't because he isn't as smart as her so it just comes off as just more stereotypical dumb mean girl. Like Jennifer is Jennifer and she's obviously cool and popular, but this guy is kind like a less smart Gretchen Wieners in comparison.

He's really good friends with Needy, but they aren't super close (he loves taunting her though and it's a very brother/sister dynamic).

But he and Chip have a weird beef because they used to be friends together in band until Jennifer got a hold of him and essentially made him super popular and then they just...stopped talking. No one knows why and neither of them are clearly mature enough to ever address it so everyone just drops it, but Jennifer keeps dropping subtle hints/insults that show that she clearly knows because this guy can't hold water and just blabs to her on and on about Chip without him knowing. So Jennifer's like, "oh these two guys are CLEARLY gay, and they're fighting is becoming foreplay at this point, it's so obvious, why is Needy with him (when she should be with Jennifer)?

They have very passive aggressive nicknames for one another and throughout the course of the movie, after the fire, they start rekindling their friendship after he starts breaking away from Jennifer and "holy shit, my former best friend almost died in a fire and now that's bringing up a lot of feelings I haven't touched on in a long time, this certainly doesn't mean anything, right"

Eventually we find out that the reason they stopped hanging out is because they kissed once and neither of them knew how to take it and they sort of drifted away and got all moody and angsty in very different ways. Obviously neither of them have gotten over those feelings so instead of actually dealing with them Chip got really interested in girls/Needy and his former friend kind of delved more into these very weird feelings for guys and sort of plays it up to get what he wants despite the fact that he is desperately missing the person he used to be.

Needy breaks up with Chip for his own safety (and because she's very much wrestling with the extremely frustrating situation with Jennifer, which has become her main priority). Chip gets comforted by his frenemy and they bring up the past again and why they kind of wish they were friends again.

Chip abruptly asks about the kiss and whether or not that meant anything or could mean anything, and it's a very tense situation with two people who grew apart as childhood friends coming together again, older but just as screwed up. Chip abruptly kisses him, and now they still aren't sure what to do because internalized toxic masculinity but also, "this was the exact thing that lead to us not talking to one another", so this time they just force themselves to...sit with it, and all of the feelings rushing along back coming along with it.

All of this to say that at the end, when he tells Needy he was already dead until he heard her voice, which is definitely true, he also tells his clearly distraught, panicked friend that the reason he stuck it out for so long after that was because he wanted to tell him he loved him and that's what he probably should've found out earlier.

He doesn't get to say it.

could Needy have saved Chip? speculation / ramble

I always wondered if Chip could have been saved. Could Needy or another character have done anything to save him? I feel like Jennifer's worst traits were exacerbated by the demon possessing her, making her better judgement and need for control affected greatly. BUT- nobody knows Jennifer better than Needy. If there was someone who could have appeased a demon-possessed Jennifer, it's Needy. I feel like with enough time Needy could have listed off "Jennifer" traits and "Demon Jennifer" traits, also including "Demon Triggers". I would also like to see Needy planning out how long it takes for the demon to hunger! how long does one meal last? does it have to do with how much of a person is consumed or is it more of a  1 soul : 1 meal  equal ratio?

I believe if Needy set boundaries in the beginning and was okay with Jennifer eating boys things could have been different. If there was a "You can do this, but Chip is off limits" and "Don't test me, I know BOTH of you" dynamic the story could have gone even deeper. I always remember that there are THREE characters now. Jennifer, Needy, and the Demon. 

I feel like the Demon started turning Jennifer towards Chip when Needy confronted / suspected Jennifer of her habits and the recent deaths. Jennifer introduced this information in a nonchalant manner and Needy immediately took offense. (not saying this is the wrong reaction to your best friend admitting they are a serial killer but this is fiction! fiction fiction fiction) Needy then started her own research with the goal of destroying the demon. I believe this started a revenge streak in the demon that put a target in the boys closest to Needy. 

Jennifer didn't show any interest in Colin until Needy shared her information about him. Chip was the first person Needy turned to / warned about Demon Jennifer and , unfortunately for him, he did not listen. I believe there was always a rift between him and Jennifer, but with Needy turning on her and Chip and Needy growing further apart, the rift became deadly. 

^ in the beginning of the movie before Needy and Jen go to the show Chip complains "stop stealing my girlfriend" and it is clear that Jen is very close to Needy. taking a high amount of her time and attention is normal for them.  if Jen "goes both ways" why not , for an easy meal , go for Needy instead? Did Demon Jennifer possibly consider Chip as competition or simply to spite Needy? 

 Why didn't Jennifer go after Roman instead? He would have been an easier snack than Chip since Roman and Jen are already acquainted and Roman wants Jennifer's attention. 

But in the end everything is Chip's fault because he could not resist Jennifer lmao

I really loved the part in Jennifer's Body when she killed the goth guy because of what it represents. Needy having a life outside of Jennifer. Jennifer's the cool one. Jennifer's the hot one. Jennifer's the one all the boys want. Yeah the goth kid wants to get with her obviously he does, but he's not her types so she shows no interest in him. When Needy tells her he's a good guy she doesn't know that she's leading him to an early grave. The movie leads you to believe that Needy is Jennifer's dorky sidekick because that's how Needy sees herself. Ask yourself this though who have you seen Jennifer interact with other than guys who want to sleep with her and the guys who used her as a human sacrifice. It's just Needy isn't it. Needy who Jennifer doesn't allow to show cleavage. Needy who she plays boyfriend girlfriend with.

When Jennifer walks into Needy room and she asks if they've been "porking" it's framed as a joke, but she's dying to know. Jennifer tolerates Chip's proximity to Needy for most of the movie because she doesn't view him as a threat, but when he has sex with Needy all of that changed. He has crossed a threshold with Needy that Jennifer hadn't. Chip indulged in what Jennifer had always denied herself, and just like that he's on the menu.

yeah girl I literally don’t care, Colin DID NOT fw Chip Dove like… at all, probably ignored him in classes or whatever and just all around had a crush on Needy, built himself up to finally confess to her only to notice Chip was in the picture and ever since then he just holds this grudge about it and avoids Chip. Look me in my eyes and tell me the stairwell scene wasn’t Colin’s awkward and strange way of flexing in front of Chip to get Needy’s attention, he literally gave no fucks about Chip being there and blatantly ignored his presence and I admire him for that ( I’m sorry Chip I love you )
