here are two fics I've thought about for ages but know I'll never write, so, if anyone wants them, please go ahead and write them! if you do, tag me when it's finished, I'd love to read them someday - if you do write and post them somewhere, please credit me ^_~
gahan / the devil judge
The Most Dangerous Game short story/1932 film AU: Ga On is a big game hunter who is accidentally thrown overboard and finds himself on ship-trap island where the mysterious, handsome, strange count Kang Yo Han seduces him, wanting Ga On to hunt people with him; Ga On refuses, and becomes the hunted himself. Like in the film, Count Kang references a successful hunt as key to getting the blood running hot before matters of love can be settled; Ga On evades him, and in their final confrontation, it's a sexual, bloody, deadly climax.

feels weird to throw these into the void, but hey.
if anyone's interested, I've made a playlist of all the songs that inspired my fics ^_^ it's so cool to see them all in one spot. thematically I suppose they're all over the place, but they're all bangers. they're in chronological order, too, so you can spot when I was going through some stuff. so. enjoy~
So, I don't have any snippets because I am taking a break from writing after finishing my Stray Kids fic Beauty and the Mafia but I do have a fic idea to share.
So, yesterday I finished rewatching The Closet, a kmovie from 2020 staring Kim Nam-Gil and Ha Jeong-Woo (100% recommend it, it's a little scary, a little gay, it's one of the few "horror/thriller" movies I really enjoyed) and while watching it I'm like...this would be such a good Gahan au, so here's my fic idea (it's long so it's going under the cut):
Kang Yohan is a judge who's watching after his young niece Elijah after her parents were killed in a terrible church fire, which he was a part of (I'm keeping that part canon but Elijah's legs don't get crushed). And they decide to move into the old house that Yohan and Isaac used to live in in the middle of nowhere but it's very awkward between Elijah and Yohan because Yohan is so focused on his work that he doesn't really have time to look after Elijah or take care of her (nor does he really want to because well...he's never really been good with kids...and Elijah reminds him too much of Isaac) so he just hires a nanny to look after her.
Every night at dinner is just awkward silence and neither of them speaking to each other before Elijah finally decides to just take her dinner in her room because what's the point of eating dinner with someone who won't even look at her or bother to talk to her. Yohan is a little worried about how Elijah is pulling away from him but he's still reeling from the death of his brother and his sister-in-law. Then one night, while he's working on some work, a scream comes from Elijah's bedroom, making his head shoot up before he rushes upstairs to check on her and he bangs on the door before the door opens to find Elijah, perfectly fine and smiling up at him, holding a new doll in her arms that he never saw before. He asks her if she's okay and she assures him that she's fine and that she's been playing with a new friend. Yohan frowns but he knows that she's young so she probably invented an imaginary friend to keep her busy since he was so busy with work. He then asks to check her room, just to make sure everything is okay, which she agrees. He quickly checks her room, notes that nothing is out of place, and then kisses her goodnight before he goes back downstairs to continue working.
After the weird night, Yohan notes that Elijah's personality and behavior has changed and she's no longer shy and withdrawn but more outspoken, rude, and just...not herself. He tries to talk to her about it but she just screams at him to get away from her and to leave her alone. She hates him. Yohan is shocked by her brazen attitude but just chalks it up to her also dealing with the death of her parents. However, the next morning, when Yohan goes to wake Elijah up, he finds her bedroom empty, causing him to freak the fuck out because he already lost his brother and sister-in-law, he cannot lose his niece too. So he goes to the media and asks them to help him find her/if they've seen her. Of course, the media skews it so that it looks like he did something to Elijah/is a bad guardian because they found a bunch of pill bottles in the house that belong to Yohan to help with his PTSD/nightmares regarding the fire. However, even though the media skews the people's view, there's one person who's watching who thinks he's seen something like this before and decides to call the broadcasting station to inquire where Yohan lives.
The next day, Yohan gets a knock on his door from a young man who claims he's from the internet company to check out his house. Yohan frowns but he knows that his internet weirdly went out recently so he just lets him in and allows him to walk around and "check" everything out. While he's walking around, Yohan's following him around curiously until they come to Elijah's room and the young man stops before the large closet in the room and grins almost manically, causing Yohan to look at him a little in concern just as there's a knock on the door, making him go back downstairs to find the real internet technician there stating he was there to fix the internet. Yohan realizes he then let a complete stranger into his house and all but drags the young man out of his house and nearly sends him away before the young man tells asks him some questions about Elijah, like has he noticed a change in her personality, screams or noises that didn't use to be there, just...things out of the ordinary? Yohan is stunned and demands to know how he knows and the young man just smiles and explains that Elijah isn't the first child to disappear but hopefully she'll be the last because he's been trying to find these kids that disappeared, 32 of them to be exactly, and he knows what took them: a demon.
Yohan, of course, is skeptical because it's the 21st century, what do you mean demons exist, but then the young man, who introduces himself as Kim Gaon, shows him a binder full of posters of all the missing kids and then shows him a video from many many years ago of a woman performing an exorcism. Gaon explains that the woman in the video was his mother and was killed by a vengeful spirit whom she was ordered to exorcise. Gaon then switches the video to infrared and shows the ghostly figure of a child, who he points out is the one who killed his mother. So not only is he searching for a way to stop the child from taking more children, he also wants to get revenge for his mother.
Yohan is still skeptical but Gaon seems to be the only one who thinks he didn't kill his niece or do something to her, so he agrees to work with Gaon to find Elijah. The first night, Gaon sets up everything in Elijah's room before he explains how the living realm and the underworld are on the same plan but split by a barrier, but once the frequency becomes the same, the living and the dead can cross over to either realm, which is how the demon child is able to cross. And as a shaman, his exorcisms scrub the frequency and that's how he's able to connect with the dead/cast them out. Yohan is still skeptical because again, 21st century, so Gaon hands him a book explaining the different types of demons and explains how the particular demon they're after is quite malicious and tends to drag people to their realm whenever their emotions or thoughts line up with theirs...which is why Elijah was taken.
Once everything is set up, Gaon and Yohan go down to watch the monitors to see if anything happens and one of the lights Gaon set up starts flashing, making him and Yohan look at the monitor just as the sound of a violin begins to play, causing Yohan's eyes to widen because that's elijah's violin. They continue to watch the monitors as the doors to the closet in Elijah's room opens before it suddenly slams shut, causing both of them to remove their earpieces as a loud ringing rings in their ears. After that, they go and check on the straw dolls in the room that Gaon had set up and found that all of them were destroyed, making Gaon huff softly as Yohan looks at him and asks if elijah was in the room. Gaon says no and that now they're going to need a bigger doll with more blood on it. Once they had set up all of Elijah's stuffies and Gaon had drenched more of his blood on to it (just like he had the straw dolls) they head back downstairs to watch the monitors. As they're watching the monitors, Gaon ends up drifting off to sleep, leaving Yohan alone and awake until one of the cameras goes out, causing him to quickly head upstairs to fix it and once he finishes fixing it, he makes to head back downstairs when a weak "Yohan" calls out from Eliah's room, making him look at it before he heads inside, ignoring Gaon's instructions to not go inside.
He then makes his way into the room and looks at the closet before he makes his way over to it, staring at it for a moment before he throws it open, only to find the bloody stuffed animals inside, absolutely shredded to pieces. Just then, the door to the room slams close behind him, making him freeze as the light in the room starts going off, signaling that there's a ghost child inside the room. He then turns, just as a blind ghost child, known as the "Blinded" launches itself at him, causing him to trip and fall back, just as Gaon's voice in his ear, as he was still wearing the bluetooth headset he gave him, instructed him to shut his eyes and to listen to his voice as he would guide him out. Yohan nods and listens to Gaon's instructions to keep his head and eyes down as he crawls through the bedroom on his hands and knees, almost playing red light green light with the ghost children, doing his best not to alert them to his presence.
Meanwhile, Gaon is downstairs, keeping an eye on Yohan in Elijah's room when all of his monitors go out, making his eyes widen before he shoots to his feet, only to find the ghost child whose been causing all the disappearances to appear before him. He then curses under his breath just as the child tips her chin at him and sends him into Yohan's extravagant bookcase. While he's fighting for his life, Yohan is fighting for his upstairs, doing his best to avoid the ghost children until his damn watch goes off alerting him that it was time to take his medication for his PTSD. As the alarm goes off, the children shriek and run towards him, just as he yanks the watch off and tosses it away from him, the children running after the watch while he pushes himself to his feet and books it to the door, quickly exiting the room. He then heads downstairs to where Gaon is and tries to get into the room but it's locked, causing him to bang on the door and wrestle with the knobs before the door finally opens and Gaon smiles weakly at him, his face covered in bruises and cuts as he clutches at his side, which has a knife sticking out of it. Yohan is horrified while Gaon says he's perfectly fine, only to collapse into his arms.
Yohan then rushes him to the hospital, his hand clutched tightly in his, and Gaon removes the oxygen mask to tell him that the child who's responsible for this is named "Myung-jin" before he's wheeled off for surgery. While he's in surgery, Yohan goes through the binder Gaon gave him and searches the posters until he came up the child that Gaon was talking about, noting the doll in her hand was the one that Elijah had been carrying around before she was taken.
Yohan then goes to see Myung-jin's father, as he was still alive, and asks him about Myung-jin and the doll, which he brings, and the minute he sees the doll, Myung-jin's father freaks out and rushes to go burn the doll in a room that has talismans on the door. He then burns the doll and as the doll is burning, the closet in the room opens and a "Dad" echoes through the room, making him turn to see his dead daughter standing before him. She then throws him across the room, causing him to crash into the wall, making Yohan, who's outside of the room, come in to check on him, and as soon as he's inside, Myung-jin's father attacks him, as he was possessed by his daughter, and wraps his hands around his throat before he begins to strangle him. Yohan tries to fight him off but he's failing terribly when Gaon, who rushed out of the hospital after hearing his mother's voice during a seizure, appeared and sliced his thumb with his knife before he pressed it to Myung-jin's father's forehead and began chanting, sending him flying away from Yohan before he was yanking into the closet in the room, leaving Gaon and Yohan alone.
They then leave the house and head back to Yohan's home when Yohan looks over at Gaon, who's pretty pale, and asks him if he's okay. Gaon smiles and assures him he's fine. Yohan makes a face before he tells him that he saw Myung-jin's memories and figured out how she died while her father was strangling him. Gaon hums and tells him that their frequencies must be in sync before he shakes his head and says he doesn't understand how parents could do that to their own kids...it's just cruel. Yohan agrees as Gaon continues that Myung-jin turned into a resentful demon and then in turn gathered children who were resentful or in pain or suffering the same way she did. Yohan was quiet before he explains that if that had happened to him...he understands why she became what she became...because he would have become the same. Gaon inquires what he means and Yohan explains that his father used to abuse him when he was little...torture him, beat him, whip him, lock him in the basement...he was sure that if his father could kill him, he would have. Gaon is horrified as Yohan continues that he would have probably become a resentful demon if he had died from the abuse that his father forced upon him...but he was too damn spiteful and refused to die under his hand. Though he still did resent him for what he did to him when he was younger. Gaon hums before he smiles and says he's glad he didn't die and that he's not a resentful demon.
Yohan laughs mirthlessly before Gaon looks over at him and asks him if he resent Elijah. Yohan is shocked by the question and Gaon tells him to be honest with him; that work was always more important than her and that he wanted her to go away...he never really liked kids and now he was saddled with one. He then asks if he resents her as well because she didn't die in the church fire like her parents. Yohan is adamant that no, he doesn't resent her for that and he's glad she didn't die...he's more resentful that he's the one that didn't die while his brother and his sister-in-law did. Gaon hums and asks him if he ever told Elijah that and Yohan says no because how could he say something like that to a child? Gaon sighs and tells him that kids know everything instinctively so Elijah probably thought that Yohan resented her existence and she didn't realize that he was being resentful for his existence, not hers. He then goes on to tell him that all of the missing kids had something in common and that was that they were scarred by their parents or guardian; abuse, verbal assault, or abandonment. Of course, he tells him, he never did any of those things, but his self-loathing was so strong that it made Elijah think that it was her fault and so she began to grow resentful towards you, even though you were both grieving the same thing. He continues that Elijah's sorrow called out for Myung-jin and that's why Myung-jin took her away.
Yohan shakes his head, disgusted with himself that he was so self-absorbed that he managed to push his niece away, before he asks Gaon how he can get her back. Gaon doesn't answer him because he doesn't know so instead of giving him hope, he just stays quiet. They continue to drive before Yohan takes a deep breath and asks him that if he and Myung-jin are in sync, he'll be able to cross over, right? Gaon is quiet before he nods slowly, causing Yohan to nod before he declares that he wants to induce either a panic attack or a nightmare to cross over to the underworld to get Elijah back. Gaon is so shocked that he nearly crashes the car, forcing him to pull it over before he looks over at Yohan and demands to know if he's out of his mind. Yohan demands to know if he has any better ideas and they're both staring at each other, daring the other to back down, before Gaon sighs and tells him that he can allow him to cross over but only for 30 minutes and if he stays any longer, he'll die. Yohan assures him that'll be enough time.
They then head back to the mansion and set up Elijah's room before Gaon and Yohan stand before a pot with fire coming out of it. Yohan then holds out his hand and Gaon takes it before he slices his palm open with his knife and squeezes his hand so that the blood drops into the pot. He tells him to be careful, Yohan nodding in reply before he goes into the closet and sits down on the floor as Gaon walks over and closes him in it, Yohan taking a deep breath before he shuts his eyes and thinks back to the fire as Gaon sits outside and begins to play a drum and chant. While he's drumming, Yohan allows himself to succumb to his dream/nightmare until Gaon's drumming is replaced with laughter, making him open his eyes before he pushes himself to his feet and pushes open the closet door to reveal a terribly creepy world full of decapitated dolls, dolls hanging from trees with ropes around their necks, and blood and smoke everywhere. Yohan is a little disturbed but ignores how he feels and looks down at his watch before he makes his through the door that's in front of him and looks around, only to see multiple different bodies of different parents also hanging from the ceiling.
He's horrified by what he sees in Myung-jin's world and as he's walking around, he suddenly feels pain in his back, making him turn around to see Isaac and Cecilia standing before him, knives in their hands. They then rushed to attack him, which he tried to avoid, until he tripped over something and fell to the ground, Isaac and Cecilia almost killing him when Gaon stepped in from his end and stopped them, the two of them turning into Myung-jin, who was holding a knife. Yohan stared at her with wide eyes before he pushed himself to his feet and ran away from her, Myung-jin watching him leave before she turned towards the door that separated her from Gaon and let out a shrieking wail, causing the closet doors in the living realm to move as if they were trying to open.
While Gaon was doing his best to keep Yohan alive in the living realm, Yohan continued through the underworld until he came upon a playground full of children in uniforms, causing him to look around before he called out for Elijah, making all of them look over at him. He then stared at the children for a moment before he began to make his way through the playground, only for the children to surround him to stop him. He then hears the sound of a violin playing, making him look up to see Elijah playing in the distance, making his eyes widen before he tried to make his way towards her, only for the children to attack him and try and stab him with knives. He thankfully was able to make his way past them until he came up to Elijah and tried to shake her out of it, only for Myung-jin to intervene and to try and get Elijah to kill him inside.
Yohan, of course, wouldn't mind dying at the hands of his niece, if that's what it came down to, but Gaon, who again, was doing his best to keep him alive, ripped off his bracelet that his mother told him to never take off and used a rather dirty trick of conjuring up Myung-jin's mother to get her to stop her assault on Yohan. The trick worked and Myung-jin lost her hold on Elijah, who fainted into Yohan's arms, before turning her attention to her mother, only for her mother to disappear because Gaon lost his focus...as well as too much blood, since he had used most of it to keep Yohan alive (as well as the ghosts at bay because they somehow managed to break the seal on the closet and nearly escape).
When her mother disappeared, Myung-jin became hysterical and began wailing and crying, begging for her mother to come back, causing Yohan, who for once felt something paternal stir in him, to look at her for a moment before he placed Elijah down and pushed himself to his feet, walking over to her. He then softly called out to her, making her turn and look at him with wide, teary eyes, and they looked at each other for a moment before Yohan reached out and enveloped her in a hug, holding her tightly as he gently pet her hair and told her that it was okay and that he was sorry that she suffered for so long and that he was sorry that the adults who were supposed to protect her hurt her. He then told her that it was okay to let go, to rest, and to finally be at peace with her mom and as he held her, Myung-jin clutched at his clothes and began to sob into them, finally feeling safe in a parental figure's arms. He continued to hold her until she finally disappeared, the other children disappearing as well.
Once all the children disappear, Yohan realizes that he and Elijah are alone in the forest and that Elijah is still unconscious, causing Yohan to freak out and beg that she wake up. Thankfully, she wakes up a little and asks to go home, which he assures her that they will. He then scoops her up and tries to figure out a way out of the underworld when the sound of Gaon's drum reaches his ear and he rushes towards the sound, soon noticing a ripple of light in the distance. He then runs towards the ripple before crashing out of the closet into the living realm, Elijah tucked tightly against him. At the sight of him, Gaon is so relieved that he drops his drum and crawls over to him, both men looking at each other with relief and before either of them know it, their lips are crashing together in an almost "I could have lost you, thank god I didn't lose you, you came back to me" kind of way. When they pull apart, they're both breathless, just as Elijah makes a soft noise, forcing them to focus on her before Yohan declares that they're going to the hospital, one to get Elijah check out and two to have Gaon looked at because he looks like shit. Gaon just laughs before he teases him that the only reason why he looks like this is because someone decided to go to the realm of the dead and he had to work his ass off to keep him alive. Yohan just laughs before they both push themselves to their feet, Elijah safely tucked in Yohan's arms, before they head out of the house, but not before Gaon walks over to the closet and makes to close it when he sees Myung-jin and her mother off in the distance, both of them staring at each other before they turn and disappear into the mist. Gaon then closes the closet door before he and Yohan leave the house and as they leave, Gaon suggests maybe burning the house to the ground and Yohan says that honestly, that's a perfect idea.
A few months later after everything that happened, life is pretty normal for Yohan and Elijah, they've gotten better about spending time with each other, and talking about Isaac, which is something Yohan would not do before after the incident happened, and just...acting more like a family. Gaon has also become a staple in their family (when he and Elijah first met, Elijah screamed "Appa!" and ran into his arms and hugged him and cried because she thought he had come back and when he explained to her that he wasn't her father, she cried some more at the realization that her dad was really gone) and now lives with them in their new apartment and they act like a proper family and never have to worry about anything coming for them again.
