200+ days of brainrotting this au save my soul im still brainrotting [ gachikoi au ]
didnt know which one was funnier so u get both
started drawing them once a day in the hopes of eventually having 100 of them
just. just help gaku
mermaid au where gaku is a humble fisherman and yugamu keeps getting caught on purpose bc he's a freak
i freaking hatet these guys so muvh
Ship whatever not my business but i just dont get why yugamu/gaku is THAT popular.
so I did an analysis of this and i think it's because for the two characters its one of the few non-takumi pairings that you can do with either
before i begin, im going to set assumptions - im going to assume no multishipping for the sake of simplicity, and im going to assume no crackshipping. obviously you can have more than one pairing exist for a character but for the sake of simplicity im not going to take that as a major factor. (bottom line is if you have a main ship for a character, a second ship is not as likely). as for the second rule. if youre not a coward you can absolutely ship whoever you want with whoever (like that vehxness shouma person) but this is mostly so that i dont have to analyze every single option with like. pairing the commanders with everyone.
first up - takumi. takumi's our protag but he's also got full on yaoi with eito. tons and tons of eitaku writing and art as it is. if you're in the shipping zone, you're likely pairing him with eito if you want him to have yaoi. no other yaoi options, asides from the pairings with our titular two, are really as viable for a few reasons, which is why takumi's pairings with those two are some of the only other yaoi pairings for those two. but as i said before - eito's takumi's main pairing. if youre in the mood for yaoi, you want that. even if you arent, takumi gets a few notable het pairings such as tsubasa, hiruko, nozomi, and kyoshika.
second up - takemaru. takemaru has like maybe a single pairing to his name. he has some interactions with gaku i guess, most notably to me being that gaku and him literally try to usurp sirei - hey does anyone think about how that was takemaru's plot point and gaku force inserted himself into the narrative to justify saving him over kurara? just me? anyways ultimately speaking i just think that sure its viable for gaku but its not viable for yugamu. but its also worth noting that takemaru's presence in fan content is incredibly low to begin with, so even if he has the potential for yaoi with gaku, its not at all
third - hiruko. hiruko's the first character where i have to address that gaku with women is something that most of his fans dont want. or at least, i imagine most of his fans dont want. bare minimum they wouldnt pair him with the woman who voiced a concern about getting assaulted, in which gaku proceeded to ask if that was an invitation for him to do so. most gaku fans recognize that if this man actually gets into a relationship with a woman they have to acknowledge how he thinks about women so its kind of obvious that- okay. my point is trying to explain why yugaku is a popular pairing for both characters and ultimately i need to point out that gaku with women isnt something people want to see. yugamu has nothing with hiruko so it makes sense theres no pairing there.
fourth and fifth - darumi tsubasa. see above point on gaku with an extra note about how he does have a crush on tsubasa and a note about ending 27 which ill get further into later. yugamu has a very notable pairing with both darumi and tsubasa in the KGPolycule ship admittedly, and its probably among his most popular pairings as a result. so thumbs up for those two!
sixth and seventh - ima and kako. shipping them is pretty taboo in the first place, compounded by lack of anything for yugamu and them. they hate gaku's guts but they never really get past that. its mostly the taboo thing though since they're, you know, younger than the main cast.
eighth - eito and shouma. i forgot eito first time around but basically take everything i said about takumi, apply it to eito. except he has no interactions with either gaku or yugamu really, so no yaoi. shouma's basically the same with the addition of "a cartoon character design is not going to get much representation in fan creations".
ninth and tenth - nozomi and kyoshika. yugamu has some potential with his second-to-lastmates. gaku never talks to nozomi and- so now i talk about ending 27. i think ending 27 is infamous enough to where if anyone even did have a darumi or kyoshika pairing, they'd keep it hidden to not be affiliated with that. it absolutely wouldnt get any kind of fandom buzz thats for sure
eleventh - kurara. see above on yugamu. its probably gaku's most popular pairing aside from yugamu and takumi. and that's all im going to say! im going to gesture at my "in the yaoi scene" thing because if i have to acknowledge this pairing any longer im going to start seeing red
twelfth - moko. take what i said about shouma and apply it here for both parties.
now, what am i trying to prove with this? im trying to say that yugamu and gaku dont really have viable shipping options outside of the other. this also now gets into the dynamic itself.
yugamu fans typically want to see him doing freaky shit. they want to see him be the kink meister - the one reorganizing your entire insides because he gets off to the thought of making your lungs livers and your liver a lung. they like it when he acts like a freak and gets to torture people.
gaku fans tend to want gaku to suffer. like, big time big time suffer. they want him to go through the wringer more than life has already given that man. they want him to feel pain. they want him to feel excruciating pain.
so where does that get you? you pair the man who dishes suffering and torture out with a man people want drawn and quartered, and you get a pretty big yaoi result from it. pre-release we had this cg i believe as well, which is where the ship started in the first place i think. prerelease yugaku led the foundation for it to still be a relatively popular pairing despite the limited screentime, mostly because every other pairing option for yugamu is a character he doesnt interact much with, every other pairing for gaku is one thats seen as largely not viable, and in the yaoi scene, theyre the only non-takumi big yaoi.
tldr: yugaku is still around because the potential of other pairings is low and the ship appeals to both character fans' desires
