Vee's End Update Pt. 29 - Galactic Rain & Purpur Pitcher
A new Weather event for the End! Occasionally, while exploring the End, droplets of Galactic Acid will rain all across the dimension - not falling from the sky, but falling up from the void! During Galactic Rain, the sky will become more staticy, and End Flashes will not occur.
Much like swimming in Galactic Acid, being caught in the rain is no picnic. Players in contact with Galactic Acid rain will be continously damaged for half a heart, until being teleported to an area of safety. Luckily, since it hits the bottom of blocks first, anywhere on the End Islands is safe from being hit by this rain. I guess this explains where those pools of Galactic Acid come from?
In practice, you cannot fly across End Islands during this Galactic Rain. While the weather does not last as long as regular Overworld rain, lasting about 2 minutes on average, it can still be an impediment to Elytra users, people using the Slugker's levitating bullets to cross over chasms, as well as anyone trying to bridge over the void - as they'll have to move over the edge of the block to place more.
On the bright side, if you get caught over the void during Rain, it'll just teleport you back down no problem, so it's not the hugest danger for a random event.
So what do you do? Well, you make like the Endermen and teleport, of course! Throw ender pearls across the gaps and hope you can make it, adding an element of risk and strategy during your end exploration both pre- and post- Elytra. If you can't get a good angle, maybe build up or try some Kaleido Stars to get some height on it!
To capitalize on Galactic Rain, I recommend crafting a Purpur Pitcher out of 7 purpur blocks, in a similar shape to an upside-down cauldron. This, of course, is what it is - an upside-down cauldron block that will fill with Galactic Acid if left hanging over the void during Galactic Rain, and can then be bucketed to obtain the substance. Finally, a renewable source of Galactic Acid!
