New Deltarune Headcanon (Theory?): Spamton was the one that convinced Tenna to adopt the points system in place of money as a way to thwart the prophecy.

Basically, Spamton becomes so desperate to try and prevent the prophecy that he resorts to video game logic as a possible loophole to save Tenna. The hope being, Tenna will lose an exorbitant amount of his points instead of dying, thus saving Tenna and preventing the prophecy.

I like imagining things in a story wise way most of the time, so one twisted one toon type death is permanent, but I also like the game wise. If I ever make art or talk about the game wise version, so have separate twisteds and toons, I’ll tag it game logic for sorting
