Chapter 1 & 2 Review
The first chapter of the book discusses the fundamentals of becoming a successful game designer within the Gaming industry. Tracy Fullerton emphasizes the importance of player experience and delivering enjoyable gameplay that challenges players. She also emphasizes the importance of playtesting as this method is not necessarily considered by game development teams which often leads to more time, money and headache for game development teams as Tracy Fullerton mentioned within chapter 1. Chapter 1 also discussed the process of becoming a better player by utilizing one’s experience and skills to create good gameplay.
The second chapter of the book discusses the structure of games such as the rules, resources, procedures, and objectives that a player must follow to overcome the obstacles to feel a sense of accomplishment. She also discusses the importance of being able to successfully get players to connect emotionally based upon their experience with gameplay as this plays a significant factor for the player to keep on playing the game without getting bored of the gameplay. She also places a significant importance on balancing the difficulty of the gameplay as we don’t players getting too frustrated or feel like they easily mastered the game which can drive them away from playing the game.
