SNOWDOWN WEEK 26:
We don’t have a Mac build yet, but we do have SOUND!
All the sounds of the tubes sliding on the snow, whizzing off a jump, landing back on the mountain and bumping into each-other were made with pure foley effects. The sliding snow sounds were made by dragging various objects around in front of a “shotgun mic”, including velvet quilts, cardboard boxes, paper towel rolls and a bag of dry couscous. Landing and bumping effects were made by dropping various objects onto a sofa to make a hefty *plomp* sound, including pillows, bundled up rugs and an inflatable beach ball thrown against a swivel chair. I also tweaked the UI to generate ticks and sounds of its own (sampled from Logic Pro X) and added a proper countdown in the menu when the player(s) opt to ready up.
Beyond that, I’m starting to get ready for my big day at Games First London 2019, where I’ll be showing Snowdown off alongside everyone else’s personal projects to the people attending.
Don’t expect a huge update next week (unless something amazing happens mid-development). Turrah for now!
