I am once again in hand pain hell, so it's been a minute since I have felt up to writing an update post. I did finally go to the doctor after a work day in which I got to about 2pm and I was in so much pain I could barely use my mouse without wanting to cry. I am suppose to wear my brace 24/7 for 6 weeks, and then we will reassess where things are. I already have all the ergonomic things for my desk, and it's not like I can stop working.
Instead of gaming (to give my hand a break) I have been doing a lot of reading. I finished Gold finally. I feel like I could have read the last 50 pages and still have known exactly what happened in the entire 700-page book. There is one more book in this series, and honestly, I am in no rush to read it other than I am borrowing it from my husband's aunt.
I read Onyx Storm and boy do I have Feelings about this one. I won't say anything since I know a lot of people had a very hard time getting their hands on a physical copy of this book. My husband is the GOAT on this one. He travels for work and happened through a rather rural area with a Target store and was able to snag me their last copy of the Target exclusive version. All the Target stores in our more urban area were sold out and not going to be restocked until the middle to end of February.
Leather and Lark was my next read, and other than one section that I had to skip past because it was vomit worthy, I loved the whole book. Again. The next book comes out end of February, and I have already pre-ordered it. I never thought I would find myself obsessed with a series about serial killers, but here we are.
I just finished up Swordheart by T. Kingfisher, and y'all, I could not put this one down. 12/10 book. First off, the FMC is mid-30s, not some young 19-20 year old girl. She is also curvy, not described as having a waist so small the MMC can wrap both hands around it. MMC has a dad bod and an amazing sense of humor. It's a very low stakes, cozy read with relatable characters for most of us who are discovering romantasy in our mid-30s.
My next read is going to be The Assassin's Blade, book .5 of the Throne of Glass series. I am going to be reading this series with my husband's aunt. The books do get thicker as they go, but I really hope this series won't take us too long to get through, unlike some other series (*coughPlaitedPrisonercough*) where every book is 800 pages long. Speaking of which, after this one I think she and I do plan to finally tackle Crescent City. All three books are sitting on my book shelf, and I haven't started them because boy are they thicc.
Not much to update on the gaming front. I am still playing BG3 on and off. Mostly off because, well, hand pain hell.
In pony updates she has been doing amazing. I finally got back to a lesson routine after weather, and my trainer being sick, and then more weather. It had been a hot minute and it was much needed. While I was doing well with getting her to stretch down in our work, I was starting to neglect also keeping her off of her forehand at the same time, so we ended up working on lots and lots and lots of half halts. Endless half halts as well as lots of transitions from trot to halt with me just using my seat and not my hands to keep us both balanced.
Her mane is so out of control, but trainer said she will show me how to thin it in the spring and to just let it grow for now, so I am going to let it do it's own thing, even if it does make me twitch.
I also finally settled on a girth for her. She has a lump in her armpit on the right side that makes finding girths for her difficult. I have been trying a few different styles for her over the last 6 months trying to find the balance between keeps the saddle in place (some make the saddle slide back), stays away from the bump (our Stubben worked for a really long time, and then it started sitting half on and half off the bump which I didn't like), and don't cause pressure on just the back of the girth. A lot of the anatomical girths end up having pressure on just the back edge of the girth with her. I ended up with a Mattes atheletico girth. It's curved backwards, which is perfect for our case. I hadn't considered one before because they are stupid expensive new, but I happened across one on eBay for almost half price of new, so decided to take a risk on it. Thankfully it seems to be working for us.
