Painting a River in Watercolor

This time it's a beautiful river in a place called Kitsuki at Dusk.

I went on that trip to Kitsuki. It’s a beautiful place in the countryside. There is a shop that where I can show my paintings. On the way back I saw this beautiful scene of a river. This is the third attempt at painting this river. I’m still not happy with the results and I’m spending about one week on trying to do a good painting of this scene. So today it began as a very sunny day. And then very quickly it became cloudy. I was walking along this street and I saw how dark the sky had become but the sun was still shining and the road was very very light. It was an amazing image. Later at home I painted that image from a photograph. I’m thinking of doing this painting again and making the foreground darker and maybe the sky too. #garethnaylor #watercolor #cityscape #paintingjapan #水彩画

I decided to paint a fir tree. It seemed a very easy thing to do. But it wasn’t. It has taken several days but now I have learned how to paint six kinds of fir tree using a Hake brush.
