The village of Penelles, in Western Catalonia, has one of the highest ratio of art per inhabitant in the world.

With only 462 inhabitants, located in a very rural area in the inside of Catalonia, every year it organizes the Gargar festival.

“The Gargar Mural and Rural Art Festival wants to promote the artistic culture in the rural world, turning the village of Penelles into a reference point, engaging people in a unique project of which we can be proud. Also, it aims at energising the village and promote tourism. The forth edition will be held this year [2019].” (from their website)

By the way, about the portraits. When they’re not famous people, sometimes they represent inhabitants of the village. This year 2019, the festival is on May 3rd, 4th and 5th.
