[When I first posted this entry, I swear I added links to the original online image to all the screen captures, but either I didn't or they somehow disappeared. I have added/restored them.]
On the eighteenth day of Halloeterodeen, I am returning to the horror tropes so popular around Halloween, especially those found in Hollywood movies. Frankenstein (1931) is one of the foundational films about a scientist delving into mysteries man was not meant to know, with horrifying results! This film had an undeniable influence on global pop culture, and in Girl Genius, on the appearance of Mechanicsburg, Castle Heterodyne, (especially the laboratories in the castle), and of the constructs, such as Punch and Judy, who were patched together from body parts and revived with electricity. (There are other types of constructs in Girl Genius, as explained in the wiki article linked to previously.) The Foglios acknowledge and pay homage to many popular culture horror tropes (as well as other genres), while always coming up with something that is original and wholly their own.
The characters Garon, Zon, and Luilla (shown above) from "Agatha Heterodyne and the Electric Coffin" are also constructs; quite obviously so at this point in the story.
While Agatha is pretty level headed as Sparks go, it can't be denied that she can get rather... enthusiastic... when she is in the lab.
The coolest think about the mighty atom (Astro Boy) Osamu Tezuka collection card 96 is that what while they used the manga incarnations of the characters the colors they used is frop their 80s anime counterpart instead of the original manga
