Chapter 2: Dream a Dream of Life Gone By [15: Another Day, Another Motive]

DING-DONG~! BING-BONG~!

“Good morning, everyone! It’s now 7 am and officially daytime! Be sure to have a beeeeea-utiful day~!”

Once again, the morning announcement stirred me awake from sleep mode. I was fully charged and ready for the day, so I make my way out of the room and to the cafeteria.

A handful of people were in the room today, but not everyone. Valentina was just making her way out of the room as I entered.

“Are you bringing breakfast to Joyce and Hunk again?”

“Yes, I am. The two of them have basic requests I don’t mind fulfilling.”

“That’s really nice of you!”

“Yes, they will be paying me very handsomely!”

Valentina had a massive grin on her face as she made her way out of the room.

“...wait, what?”

That was a bit odd, but I didn’t follow her. Instead, I stayed in the cafeteria to talk to Brenda and Trisha and the others that showed up for breakfast. Things were fine and peaceful up until...

“Attention! Attention all students!”

“God, what can he possibly want right now?”

“Is it another secret..? I slept through all those other ones...”

“Naturally...”

“Please make your way to the computer lab! We have an important motive to get to!’

“Another one..?”

“Well, Gary doesn’t want to die or something, so he’s gonna get going. It’d be smart for everyone else to do the same.” Gary got up from his seat and hurried out of the room.

“Gary is correc--”

“Ggh...I think I just regurgitated breakfast within my mouth...”

“I know how you feel...”

Without much of a choice, we all got up and went to the computer room. Everyone else had already gathered there. Monotwoma was there as well, standing on top of the desk at the front of the class room.

“Hello, everyone! Did you enjoy your morning?”

“Up until this...”

“So, what dastardly motivation have you provided us with now?

“I’m so happy you asked! Secrets are so last week, now it’s all about the temptations of life!”

“I...don’t think I understand.”

“Lemme spell it out to you all--if you kill, I’ll give you the thing you want most in life. Your wildest dreams will come true at the expense of your fellow classmates. That’s all.”

“That’s insane! How could ya possibly do somethin’ like that?!”

“I’m a very powerful bear, you know! That’s why I’m a 2.0! I’m even better than the original!”

“Your face is enough to give Gary nightmares.”

“You have fears, Gary?”

“I thought you guys might act like this, though, and so did the traitor! So they’ve already decided how to improve this motive!”

“Wait, what?!”

Chapter 2: Dream a Dream of Life Gone By [1: Dawn of a New Day]

“Good morning, everyone! It’s now 7 am and officially daytime! Be sure to have a beeeeea-utiful day~!”

“Hmm..?”

I had powered down for the night and charged back to full power by now. The murder yesterday...the trial...the execution...they were all still fresh on my mind. I know about death and the loss of life but...but I've never seen it before.

“Mie...Machiko...” They really were dead. Dead and gone forever in a splash of blood...I didn’t want to keep thinking about it, so I head off, making my way to the cafeteria.

The first thing I notice is that everything is cleaned up. There’s no blood or knocked over furniture. There are no footprints. And...there’s no Mei. Her body is gone. The room looked like it always had. Everything had been effortlessly cleaned up.

The cafeteria was fairly empty when I got there. But I did see a few people.

“Gooooooood morning, Kassie!”

“He’s been in a good mood all morning. You should just ignore him.”

“I am very good at not being ignored.”

“He is.”

“...”

Maybe I should go charge some more instead of this.

Someone steps out of the kitchen.

“Ah, good morning, Kas.” She had a couple plates of food with her.

“Oh, hey Valentina! Do you know where everyone else is?”

“Hunk is hiding out in his lab and Joyce is in her room. I couldn’t tell you where the rest of them are. Maybe in bed still. I’m simply getting breakfast for Hunk and Joyce right now.”

“Can Gary get some breakfast, too?”

“I’ll let you lick the bottom of my boot.”

“Oooo, deal...”

“Jesus, is your brain in your dick or something, freak?!”

“Oh no! The consequences to Gary’s actions!” Gary grabs the helmet for his suit and puts it on.

“Oh...was Gary making people angry?”

“You’re starting to piss me off, nutjob!”

“U-Um, wait, Noodle is sorry if he has upset you somehow!’

“Itsuki, maybe you should--”

“C’MERE!” Itsuki raises his fist, ready to punch Noodle.

“Hey, hey, hey! Can everyone get to the gym? I got an announcement you’ll wanna here!”

“This isn’t over...”

Itsuki gets up and walks out. Genji follows and Gary (Noodle?) trudges along after.

“That was way too close...”

Trial 1: Walk A Mile In Despair’s Shoes [21]

“Where do you get off accusing me like that?! Huh, you little bastard?!”

“Weren’t you accusing people, like, an hour ago or something?”

“I mean...I have a real reason to do it.”

“Care to explain?”

“Well...I guess no one else saw it, but when we were all gathered in and panicking over the body, I had seen Machiko enter a lot later than everyone else.”

“And so what?!”

“I could tell you were sneaking around and trying not to be seen. You didn’t want anyone to know you got there late, did you?”

“Wh...are you serious right now?!”

“Do you...care to explain that, Machiko?”

“Well, it...he’s lying. He’s lying right now, probably covering for his own ass.”

“That’s not...really a defense.”

“Would you like to explain yourself then?”

“Eat shit, I don’t have to explain anything! J is lying and that’s that!”

“S-Sorry, sorry!”

“Someone doesn’t like being given their own medicine!”

“How do we know a creep like you isn’t the killer?!”

Something is clearly wrong here. Machiko won’t answer anything and keeps deflecting. What are we going to do about this?

“So…Gary honestly has no ideas for this one.”

“Perhaps it was a note that summoned Mei to the area?”

“Except we already said she was there because of breakfast.”

“Hold on, maybe they have a point.”

“Uh…no. They don’t. It’s not a note.”

“So what is it then, Einstien?”

“Uuuuuh…”

“I knew those video games fried your brain.”

“Lady, we are not having this conversation again.”

“I think you are getting off-topic here.”

“I think we need to look at this from another angle. Are we sure that was paper in her hand? What if it was something else?”

“I assure you I recognize paper when I see it!”

“But what if it’s not? Maybe it’s not paper like you guys are thinking. I mean, are paper towels the same as normal paper?”

“Well…no. So you think it might be something other than normal paper?”

“That’s right.”

“How are we supposed to prove that, though?”

“Um…well…”

That’s…where I was at a loss. But I’m sure if we all just discussed it, we can find out together. Right?
