"But of course people with that diagnosis are abusive, it's literally in the diagnostic criteria-" Are we seriously arguing that the creation of official medical categories of ontological bad person disorder are apolitical, unbiased and to be taken at face value OR could we maybe think for like two seconds?

a lot of my disillusionment with the trans "community" comes down to the fact that too many of you take "gender is different from sex" and go "ah ok, so instead of saying women are fragile and men are strong, I should say afabs are fragile and amabs are strong. to be Inclusive"
then you just treat gender like a surface level aesthetic draped over what someone "actually" is. really is indistinguishable from terf rhetoric
you all need to unpack your bioessentialism, but we also need a better theory of gender than "it's just dressup." I will pick my words carefully here, but the word "gender" itself refers to so many different phenomena that have been lumped together, and we need to un-lump them
in a feminist context, "gender" has historically referred to externally imposed categorization and the internalization and performance of said categories. in a paper I wrote on this subject, I called this sense of the word "extrinsic gender"
"intrinsic gender," on the other hand, is what I used to refer to the sense of the word "gender" that a lot of trans people are talking about when they discuss social gender dysphoria and euphoria. it's the internal sense of category that's resistant to external impositions
but then we also use the word "gender" to refer to subconscious sex, which is the term Julia Serano coins in Whipping Girl to name the phenomenon we're talking about when we talk about bodily dysphoria. it is the "gender" being "affirmed" by gender affirming healthcare like HRT and bottom surgery
so, "gender" is: a social classing system, a performance, and at least two internal phenomena as well. and I really don't know if it's doing us a service to conflate all of these things!
people will easily say "gender is a social construct" with the implication that sex isn't also one—that gender can be changed because it's socially conducted and sex can't because it's 'real.' but just like gender, sex also refers to many different lumped-together phenomena that too many people wrongly assume can only exist in two distinct combinations that are determined at birth.
sex is just as much a socially connected spectrum of characteristics as gender, it's just that the characteristics are physical ones, which makes seeing it as a social construct harder for a lot of people, i think.
even among trans people, i see advocation for things like sex markers on IDs, ridicule of medical forms that simply ask about what body parts one has and what one's endocrine system is like (the right way to do it), and constant use of "assigned sex" language as a stand-in for the idea of binaristic sex (even about people who have undergone a great deal of sex transition). it makes me sad.
the idea that predators and abusers are an ontological category of person, rather than everyone having the capacity to be predatory and abusive, leads to people having no regard for boundaries because they think that predation only comes from evil people ™
I feel like I need to share this because idk if Europeans are familiar with the presence of Aldi in the US, but at least especially in my area they’ve been growing a lot recently. Like Aldi bought out some local failing grocery chains where I live (Louisiana) and have opened Aldis in all these somewhat rural communities and small towns, which for the record I’m fine with
But as a result of this they are advertising a lot more in my area and also in many cases, the people in these areas have never been confronted with Aldi or any European grocery store. So the ads that Aldi is pushing out to its new US customer base feature a cowboy shopping at Aldi who is explaining to new Aldi customers how Aldi works. Like this cowboy is explaining you gotta put a quarter in the shopping cart and why there are very little name brands. A cowboy is how they want to reach their American customer base. They gave us a cowboy
Here he is, the Aldi Cowboy
There is an annoying tendency in online arguments that I noticed, especially about transphobia/transmisogyny where people define "bigotry" and "bigot" so narrowly that very few people qualify. The definition seems to be "only a person who explicitly says a statement like "all of [group X] are [bad thing]" is a bigot." Of course the real reason for people to make this narrow a definition is to protect themselves from valid accusations of bigotry.
This might be because i'm trans, but I noticed it is especially common when it comes to transphobia and transmisogyny. So we essentially get arguments that go "Unless you make a statement like "all transfems are sexual predators" you are not a transmisogynist."
I remember this being common after J.K. Rowling revealed her views definitely by publishing her big twerf essay. It was a bit of a meme where her defenders would point to that essay and ask "what is transphobic about this essay? Can you point out the transphobia? Can you quote the transphobic parts?" And of course they would reject any reply that actually tried to answer those questions. Their implicit standard for what is transphobia was an explicit statement that "all trans people are bad." And of course by that standard, Rowling's essay is not transphobic, despite being an argument against trans people's rights and ability to exist in public society.
And I noticed this defense against accusations of transphobia and transmisogyny continues to be common. There are people on this very site, who push what I can only describe as a "transfem pedophile cabal" narrative, who deny being transmisogynistic. They'll say "it's not all transfems who are pedophiles, it's just this cabal I'm after, so i'm not transmisogynistic, I just hate child sex abuse." Except the "pedophiles" they keep discovering and harssing all happen to be transfem for some mysterious reason. And these transfems are deemed "pedophiles" for reasons that have often nothing to do with actual child sex abuse.
This is very common among supposed allies to transfems, even in meatspace. There are so many groups out there which are on paper transfem-inclusive, but the TME people dominating these groups always find there is something wrong with the actual transfem individuals who become members, and the transfems are all excluded, one after the other. And of course none of the TME people doing the exclusion is a transmisogynistic bigot. So it goes.

tells you how much whoever runs ellipsus cares about people other than their narrow view of "the common people" when their merch store sells a 26€ tote bag where "the blank product sourced from China or India" and a 35€ "organic sweatshirt" where "the blank product is sourced from bangladesh". They're shipping in shit made in sweatshops and printing a design on them and then selling for these prices. incredible really. talk about stolen labor
stay cozy in your 35€ culture war posturing organic sweatshirt made by bangladeshi workers paid for cents. this is how you show you care about artists
