I wonder if this is where we're going to get Sero's big moment. It seems like it's one of the last active battlefields, and Gashly looks absolutely horrifying. I'd love to see him team up with Ojiro and Ryukyu, feel like it's been a while since we've seen them.
What is Dabi's quirk? because the glowing orb at the end of 353 does not indicate AFO doing. Before we see the next chapter, what do you think? Is it a type of frost fire or phoenix quirk?
There is just no way of knowing - it's set up in a way purposefully that nobody can be sure.
I personally like the idea that there is more to Touya's quirk than it being a copy of Endeavor's in Rei's body. That either it also has some kind of ice component (but not exactly like Shouto's) or that it has an element to it (such as regeneration), which nobody ever realized because Endeavor gave up too soon on Touya and Touya only ever tried to copy Endeavor instead of going his own way.
I like the narrative that seeing Shouto do something different with his quirk awakens in Touya something / or he becomes consciously capable of something new that's more suited to his body.
Now, the shiny orb may be Touya's quirk or it could be something else. AFO seems to imply that he has somehow power over Touya's life, but it could very well be a bluff, to mess with Endeavor's guilt.
But we also know that AFO can influence people he has his vestige inside to do his bidding with subliminal commands. The sidekicks mentioned "Gashly" among the Tartarus escapees, while we see the silhouettes.
Gashly appears to be a reference to this macabre alphabet book, where children die at each letter.
So possibly Gashly could target Touya and/or Shouto and could have a quirk that could set off specific deaths for people. And that's just one outlandish theory.
For now, I'm happy that Shouto and Touya are quite obviously not done yet. There is more to come and I still believe eventually they'll make it to the same place with Endeavor to get more closure.
I also don't believe that after everything Shouto has done, Touya will just die in some meaningless self-explosion.
The official translation of 353 has been out for 24 hours, and fans are freaking out over Toya and Gashly. But cliffhangers and horror-inspired villains aren’t new for Horikoshi. Plus, it’s the end of the story and he’s going to put it all out there for the fans, which is GREAT! Keep calm and carry on with this in mind:
Toya went into Kamino intending to die. But he lived because Shoto was there. We don’t know anything beyond that, because Toya hasn’t said a word. The sound effects indicate he’s probably warming up, because the same sounds occur when Endeavor is raising his heat. But whether Toya is healing, preparing an attack, or another person is using a quirk on him can’t be known yet because we have NO reaction from Toya. It’s a cliffhanger and we just have to wait and see (to quote Neil Gaiman).
Some positive thoughts — Ujiko and AFO saved Toya at Sekoto Peak, and Toya repaid them by burning down their facility. But that situation and the current one are very different. Ujiko and AFO wanted to remove Toya from his family. Shoto wants to bring Toya home and share a meal with him. Ujiko and AFO wanted Toya’s flames to be murderous. Shoto wants Toya’s flames to be heroic. Toya may not be 100% ready to flip to the heroes’ side, but Shoto has now done more for Toya than Ujiko and AFO.
Iida is by Shoto’s side, supporting his desire to help his big brother. Burnin, Kido, and others are there too, and they’re NOT trying to hurt Toya. Remember All Might had help in Kamino too — the other pros showed up and rescued the trapped people so All Might could go all out against AFO.
Gashly is an assassin, apparently named after an Edward Gorey story about a man who kills children. Creepy, yeah. But 1A has faced assassins since USJ. Think of Stain, the forest camp, Shie Hassaikai, Ending, the war arc, the Deku retrieval with Dictator. For sure, Gashly will pop up to throw a monkey wrench into the heroes’ plans. But these kids have seen mortal danger before; they’ve all got pro heroes by their side too.
There will be more challenges, cliffhangers, fake-out deaths, and possibly some “real” (fictional character) deaths too. That’s part of having an emotional, high stakes final battle that gives closure to long-running character arcs…and that’s what fans want, right???
Gabby and Ashly repping for June's Diary at the LA Hair premiere
So many of my favorites came out. If you count them, plus all the MLAs. I'll add Endeavor later, because I'm exhausted from these smols.
Crossover with No i'm not a human I would like to remind everyone that GAZ is a merger of AFO and Gashly due to the latter's desire. DDDD
In honor of this nice guy appearing in the anime and not being cut. I love this creepy hatter with the meat puppets. Gashly smile for the camera DDDD
