I have mixed emotions on this

Sadly, due to some bizarre case of backstabbing and drama, GasuKan is no longer being led by my friend Charlotte. Instead, she has now transferred the leadership of the group over to me and my friend Jared (we used to be briefly in charge before Charlotte took up the reins, and it's nice that she felt we were worth giving it back to).

I'm a bit scared of having this thrust on me so suddenly, especially in the wake of drama that happened, but I hope with all of my heart that me and Jared can do a nice enough job in running things that people will be happy. I know ya can't please everyone, but dammit, at least we can sure as hell try our best. And it feels good to know that we have awesome friends vowing to help out whenever it's needed...

An interesting day

Today, I attended the GasuKan holiday event. It was pretty chill and okay. Sad that only me and a friend entered the ornament contest that was going on, but oh well. She got lucky in the name draw for it, and I'm happy for her. The white elephant gift exchange, on the other hand, only had a few good things and folks were eager as hell to trade stuff. I'm fortunate to have snagged a really decent item - a deluxe figurine of Uryu Ishida from Bleach. But I feel bad for the friend who got the gift I put in... she's not an anime fan at all (the item was a soft cellphone case with LenaLee from D. Gray-man decorating it). *sigh*

Gave a few gifts to friends, including an epic one from Japan that I gave to Sunarry (butterfly-shaped cellphone charm/pendant that had a crystal on one wing, and also literally had a piece of fabric infused into it... red with a golden chrysanthemum in one corner). Then spent most of the day hanging out with Homestuck buds and other friends, enjoying their company, and later enjoying the cracktasticness of when my sister wore my sparkly violet santa hat and tried on a gift that she'd gotten (the shirt needed for cosplaying Eridan Ampora; so in essence due to part of the other outfit she wore, she was doing a female human version of him with leather leggings and high heeled black boots...LOL).

I mean, I did have fun at this... mainly thanks to my awesome buds. However, part of me felt sad. It looks like GasuKan is truly losing it's charm. The girl who founded it never even has fun when she comes anymore. She spent the whole time looking bored or pissed off (don't want to know why). Bummer...

Stupid finances... jeez...

Well, it's looking more and more like I won't be doing much in August. Don't feel up to going to GasuKan (& I'm getting tired of weird drama crap attached to it; ever since I lost having any major involvement in it, and since I learned that the founder of Yakumei was very rudely banned from GK just for her group's existence, I've felt uncomfortable going... it's not as fun as it used to be! Not gonna stop going, though; just not going as often). There's the Yu-Gi-Oh meetup my bud Rian is doing at the King Tut Exhibit, but sadly I won't be able to go to the exhibit itself - got no money! And that's a primary reason I won't be doing much... I've got to save up all bits of free money I have towards AkiCon. $125 is a hard amount to acquire when you only get like $20 or $30 a month to use towards personal stuff. At least I can still enjoy attending the next Yakumei meetup at the end of the month, which shall be epic since it's a pirate theme & there's talk of all sorts of wild stuff for attendees to enjoy. For the most part, though, I'm so terribly worried about getting the money I need for the con... and I don't want to let down my friends from Oregon that I'm staying with & force them to have to pay a lot more money towards the hotel room, etc.

Yesterday was... interesting. XD

So, yesterday was May's GasuKan meetup. It was held at a nice place (Denny Park, which surprisingly was a lot bigger than I thought it was and really cool). However, it was depressing that there was such a tiny amount of people that showed up! I mean, we're talking like the suck of that one GK that took place years ago at the PLU in the rain (which I didn't attend for personal reasons). But, regardless of that awkwardness, those who did show up had plenty of fun. Since the theme for this one was gijinka, I debuted my fun gijinka of Optimus Prime (which I hope to improve upon in order to use at a con in the future). Also got to hang out with my friend Aspen (who was so happy to be at GK again, having missed several GKs as well as missed out on SakuraCon; was dressed as a cute Umbreon), saw an awesome cosplay my bud Phil did of Captain Smoker from One Piece, was greeted as I entered the park by the sight of my friend Sunarry wearing part of the cosplay she's been working on for me (and was taking a nap in it, too...LOL), got to meet a fun girl dressed as Fem!Dave with a MLP t-shirt on and who gave me a cool sketch she made of Karkat, briefly saw my bud Harry getting his butt handed to him in a Yu-Gi-Oh duel with Sunarry's matesprit (one of a few times that happened, I learned... heh heh...), and plenty of other fun bits. In the evening was dinner at Blue C Sushi, followed by chilling at GameWorks. Had the crazy notion of heading up to AFK Tavern after that, regardless of how late it was (missed the last bus to Seattle; but thankfully got a ride downtown from Phil). It was a bittersweet time, though, because it turns out AFK remodeled their interior - they have more seating areas now, but they PAINTED OVER all of the amazing artwork, doodles, and geek & gamer quotes/memes that adorned the walls of their main dining area for years. I'm especially sad to no longer get to see a pic of Karkat Vantas drooling at Terezi Pyrope wearing a bikini (I know, silly to miss that, but it was the only decent Homestuck art in the place next to a doodle of GT John in the women's bathroom). Thankfully the bathrooms still have their epic walls of crazy art & text, though (and the girl's now has "John <3 Dave" doodled on the door in plain sight... wonder if anyone I know did that).
