The one word Chrissie Wellington uses to sum up her phenomenal successes! What's yours? Two solid weeks (Pre Dambuster) nutrition felt right, getting the sleep in and training was building me (not breaking me). 4.30am on Saturday the 9th May and it was my usual oats, honey, vitamins, water and coffee start. We arrived at the first start line raring to go.. BANG 'my tyre explodes' & 'no race chip on' & 'watch not set up' this was all before the race began, bad luck does come in 3s! 'I guess it's funnier from where you're standing' Feeling extremely nervous with the exposure that the run gives you on a Duathlon was tough. I stuck to what I know and that was to run with form and let the speed build. I went and achieved what we had planned, a solid race. PB on the run (I have my coach, Perry, to thank for the time he has invested in me on the track) however a challenging bike on what was a wintery day. Oh and my new run technique even made it on the British Triathlon website!
A week passed and I had achieved a dream... GB Age Group Qualification. I am excited to say that I will be going to Canada (Ottawa) in August to race in the World Duathlon Championships 'I'm restless and I can't help changing things' Not to forget the SWIM- a fantastic swim today with my coach saw me beating my 400m TT by 7 seconds! Must learn to build into it though... learning point. I can not wait for the Easter TT (No Easter eggs for me that weekend!) with tough competition from a truly inspiring Male athlete who performed with an exceptional PB at Dambuster! 'See the times are changing, I'm sure I'm nothing that I know, except this is us' Following the swim we headed to Putney. A fantastic time spent with Perry (although he will not want me in his car again with my unnatural ability to navigate!) we chatted through race weight whilst eating (I'm pleased i didn't go for the chocolate cake) We then listened to a truly inspirational talk by Chrissie Wellington - I am overwhelmed by that incredible woman. I stayed for a chat (and to get my book signed of course) I even managed a quick Snap! An infectious passion for everything she stands for and I will always dream of such successes...
