To help your debate-- New Testament is full of verses about how marriage is only between 1 man and 1 woman and that anything outside of that is sinful, shameful, and despised by God. Matthew 19:4-5, Romans 1:26-27, 1 Corinthians 7:2-3, Ephesians 5:22-28, 1 Peter 3:1-7. Original greek word translated as pedophilia by homosexual apologists was arsenokoitai, literally "man who beds with men." -Geata
I wouldn't say debate cos that implies trying to "win" - I don't want to win an argument, I want to have a discussion about the beauty of Biblical truth. But thank you for the verses! I haven't had a chance/didn't make the effort to actually go find any so I do appreciate it.
I think it's also important to note that the Biblical image of marriage is not just one man and one woman, but that the man and woman have expectations and roles to fill. You can't just say 'I'm married in a straight relationship and therefore not sinning at all' - no. There are responsibilities as a husband or a wife that the Bible clearly outlines (see the verses shared in Ephesians, 1 Corinthians and 1 Peter). And marriage is between one man and one woman - divorce is seen as a sin (and we do live in a broken world, so marriages aren't going to be perfect and I do have compassion for those who are no longer with their partner for whatever reason. There is understanding for those who are in abusive relationships etc.)
Christians get so caught up in the debate about homosexuality that often we miss what's important. Where is our heart? Are we so focused on convincing others that they're wrong and sinning that we're neglecting sin in our own lives? Are we reacting as strongly when another sin is brought into contention? Are we consistently and lovingly pointing people to the cross, regardless of what sins they are struggling with?
