My retro Jazzy Jeff Gemini mixer
If you were a teenager in the hay day of rap music, did you rush to save money for turntables? These days, if kids have money and they want to buy something nice, they buy a car. It is the symbol of hard work, or at the very least, family wealth. Before this was possible, kids had other things on their mind. They actually wanted to know what they were worth, rather than wearing or driving displays of wealth. If a kid had turntables in the 90’s, that kid was one bad dude. Of course, these were expensive back them, and they still are today. They cannot be produced like a MIDI controller, and were made of metal and other sensitive equipment. Those who have actually hung on to their old gear get to have a sense of longevity when they pull out their old mixer and plug it into their new computer or MIDI controller. The fact that it even works at all is a statement in itself, as many newer products have the lifespan of a goldfish. I guess we should cherish the gear we are still able to use today, as they simply don’t make them like they used to. http://djworx.com/simple-pleasures-my-retro-jazzy-jeff-gemini-mixer/
Gemini G2V DJ Controller
If I had the difficult task of having to choose the right MIDI controller or digital deck for my performances, where would I actually start? It seems to me that I would have to browse my local music shops and actually take a look at each of the pieces being considered. While they may look alike on the surface (2-decks, pads, and a 2-channel mixer), and of us who have owned one knows that the way they actually feel in use is quite different. Not every pad out there has the same precision when pressed, nor do they feel as good when pressed. Some platters out there might look the part, but they also perform horribly when actually used. It would seem that none of what is out there can be compared to something that looks the same while costing more; usually you get what you pay for. When Gemini sets out to make controllers that mock what Numark or Pioneer has done, it leaves you wondering. Are these truly to the point where we can safely buy the cheaper version of a controller, or would it be best to just save our money and go for the more expensive option? http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2014/01/gemini-g2v-review-video/
