My boy has loved the ocean since he was very little. When he was a tiny tot he would spend hours playing with water. Then he became obsessed with the sea and all the creatures that lived under the waves. First it was jellyfish, then the colossal squid and finally merfolk. In swimming pools he would sink to the bottom and spend all his time under the water. He would swim like a merboy, graceful and swift. When he discovered that he could actually own his own tail he was super excited. He waited a long time, and eventually his tail arrived from America. Watching him dive down into the pool and swim so fast with his new tail was pure magic for me. I knew I had to capture this special time, while his tail still fits his little frame and he’s still fascinated by life under the water. So at the end of the summer, on a breezy day, we headed down to one of our favourite beaches at sunset and I got to capture my merboy. These images are very special to me and to him. I know how much he loves that tail and the feelings of freedom, speed, grace and magic that he has when he wears it. I love you Deej.
