Genderscratched; A gender system in which one's gender has been scratched by a concept/matter/being/etc, causing it to feel as partially that concept/matter/being/etc. For example, Lovescratched would be a gender where your gender has been scratched by love, and now feels like it's partially love. Talking about Gender in context of The Forgotten City

i believe i have previously mentioned that gender worked differently to how we as a society tend to see it in this story, but have not gone much further on the topic. as such, i have written a few bits here as a bit of an explanation as to how it works! :)

Mono (Strictly Male or Female) – "He/Him" or "She/Her"

People who align strictly with either male or female identities.

Includes individuals who, by outward appearance and/or personal identity, feel fully one gender.

They use pronouns that reflect this alignment (he/him for males, she/her for females).

They are considered the same gender socially, despite different pronouns—meaning they share the same societal roles, expectations, and spaces. Binary trans people Do fit into this catagory.

'he/him/his' is - 'mi/yæ/i' 'she/her/hers' is - 'a/môs/yæ'

Vei (Multiple or Fluid Genders) – Variable Pronouns

Individuals who embody multiple genders, either simultaneously or fluidly over time.

This includes people we might consider genderfluid, pangender, or bigender, but also intersex individuals who feel a connection to both male and female traits.

Their pronouns are highly flexible. Some may use he/him, she/her, they/them at different times or all at the same time, or just one, while others create blended pronouns like "shi/hir" or "he/m." These 'blended' pronouns are often personal and are 'hand blended' by the individual, rather than there being 'standard' blend.

This self-expression, and it's considered normal for a person to shift how they present or are addressed over their lifetime.

Aet (Absent/Beyond Gender) – "They/Them"

People who do not associate with any gender at all.

This includes individuals who feel detached from gender due to biological factors, personal beliefs, or emotional/spiritual experiences.

They often describe themselves as being "beyond" gender, rather than simply without one, though some do refer to it this way, too.

Trauma, disability, or personal philosophy may lead someone to identify as Aet, but it is not a status of lesser value.

Zae (Child-Only) – "It/Its"

Children are not assigned a gender at birth.

They are referred to as Zae, meaning “untouched by gender.”

Some individuals remain Zae into adulthood if they have not yet determined their gender. This is rare, but it does happen. They are still legally considered children until they either choose a gender or shift into the Aet category. Most who stay as Zae this long do tend to fall into Aet, but it is not always the case.

Using "it/its" for a person does not carry any negative connotation - it is a neutral, respected pronoun that reflects the idea of being unformed rather than lesser.

Secondary Gender Classifications (Based on Reproductive Ability)

These classifications exist alongside primary gender identities. They are not "genders" in the same way but are instead additional descriptors used in specific social contexts.

Tav (Can Carry a Pregnancy)

Anyone who has the biological ability to carry a child is Tav, regardless of how they present or identify.

This means that a masculine-presenting individual with a womb would still be considered Tav.

Elderly people, infertile people, or those who have lost reproductive ability are not Tav.

Har (Cannot Produce Children)

This includes people who are infertile, elderly, sterile, or who have chosen not to have children.

Har is a status given either by circumstance or personal choice. Someone who could have children but has vowed never to do so might still be Har.

Being Har does not exclude someone from having a family or raising children—it just means they are not seen as biological contributors.

Rul (Can Father Children)

This is optional—some people lump Rul together with Har, while others keep it distinct.

Anyone who can impregnate another person is Rul.
