So I was able to come up with what I visualized as Angie and Joey Mead King’s Gingerbread Person after watching TLC’s “The Kings Full Feature.” While I was watching the video, I was actually very happy for Angie to see how she was able to come out successfully to her family and friends even when it wasn’t the time she was planning to. We see a lot of hate towards transgenders and generally the whole LGBTQ+ community that seeing her be accepted by those who matter the most to her is a refreshing story. The video actually broadened my understanding more about gender and all of its aspects. Before watching it I actually thought the couple broke up but remained friends, but the video showed me how even if you identify as a woman, you can still remain romantically attracted to a woman as well. It really cleared up confusions about their relationship and opened my mind more about this topic.
As for myself, I just kind of feel like I shouldn’t box myself to a certain “gender.” It made me feel free as well, because I am more knowledgeable now that these gender aspects do not define each other, and therefore it does not define me as a whole. I identify as a cisgender right now, fully supporting those who are not, because I know that times may change, and who I believe I am right now might not be in the future. Somehow that gives me a peace of mind.
Just found this in the copy machine at my job❤️🤗🌈 It melts my heart to know that one of my coworkers seems to be teaching their students about Gender Identity. Have no idea which teacher is doing this but I can't wait to find out who it is and thank them. I have had many ups and downs working as a trans high school teacher. Many people saw what I was up against and told me to give up because the world wasn't ready for a transgender high school teacher. After transitioning I felt like a glass ceiling was suddenly placed above my head. I've been discriminated, harassed and nearly forced out over the last few years. However, I stayed strong and persevered. This year has been pretty good to me though. This is the first time I've had a principal that has allowed me to work fully as my true self, supporting me. Others would not respect my pronouns and much worse. Do I still encounter discrimination and bigots? Of course I do! Just today the school psychologist sent me an email calling me Mr. Brady despite knowing that everyone on staff and all of my students only know and refer to me as Ms. Summer Brady. Another employee informed me that they have corrected her repeatedly but that "this is all pretty new to her" and that she may never learn. I don't want people to think that the road to get to where I am was an easy one. In all honesty, it sucked. However, I am truly blessed to have made it here. The truth is that the average trans woman in America lives under the poverty line. I am privileged to be in the position I am in and that's why I will continue to share my stories. I want every trans boy and girl to get the same chances and opportunities that their CIS peers have. Gender, sex, and sexuality are all fluid concepts. The idea of polarity is an outdated concept and an infinite combination of expressions are possible. According to Gallup Polling, approximately 4% of all Americans are queer identifying.
Where do you fall on the scales? #genderbreadperson #knowthyself #transgender #IamThey
