Pie isn’t Simple

Hey, so I totally forgot about the DeanCasCreationsChallenge deadline, but I’ve had this written for a month! So, even though it’s not technically legit, enjoy some genderfluid!Cas and Dean in a healthy stable happy relationship. My prompts included: moonstone, calm/storm, and light sky blue.

Dean lay on the roof of the Impala, listening lazily to the sound of crickets in the forest around him. He was almost asleep watching the full moon through the trees when he heard the low thud that he knew came from one of the heavy exterior bunker doors.

“Who dare disturbs my slumber?” he tried to quip sleepily. A fond huff was his only answer, but it didn’t matter. He knew it was Cas. He could tell by the soft footsteps and the steady presence he felt a few seconds later at his side.

“Trick or treat,” Cas said expectantly. Dean reached blindly in Cas’s direction, making grabby motions until he felt Cas’s hand in his own.

“Treat.” Cas helped Dean up until he could support himself, instantly enveloping Cas in his arms. “What should I call you today?” Dean asked, looking at Cas fondly. It was technically morning, after all. Cas just grinned softly back at him.

“Lover,” Dean laughed, kissing Cas lightly on the lips. “She,” she answered breathily when their lips parted. Dean nodded happily.

“Okay,” he whispered. He leaned in for another kiss, and Cas obliged enthusiastically, pushing Dean gently back until he bumped up against the hood of the Impala again. Dean broke the kiss to let out another laugh when he lost his footing and Cas stumbled on top of him. She looped an arm around his shoulders and they lay against the car, now looking up at the moon together.

“She’s beautiful.” Cas sighed at the moon. Dean nodded, turning his head to look at Cas as she smiled at the sky.

“You know who else it beautiful?”

“If you say your car, I’ll kick you.”

Dean laughed. “Look at me,” he asked quietly. Cas obliged, facing Dean so that their faces were only inches apart. Dean ran a rough finger down Cas’s cheek, and blushed, looking away. “You have the most beautiful eyes in the world, Cas,”

Cas shook her head fondly. “How many have you had to drink tonight, Dean?”

“A few. But that doesn’t make it less true.” Dean reached down and took one of Cas’s hands in his own, intertwining their fingers. “They’re like the sky.”

Cas’s face twisted up, her eyes not meeting Dean’s. “The sky has storms.” She whispered. Dean furrowed his brows with worry. She was having a bad night; that much was obvious. But there was more to it than just that; he could tell. He placed a gentle kiss on her knuckle.

“What’s wrong?”

Cas didn’t answer for a while. She looked back up at the moon, and her expression softened, and Dean didn’t have the heart to push her when she looked peaceful. But she finally did answer, her grip on his hand tightening as she spoke. “I’m not simple, Dean.” she said quietly. Dean looked at her, confused, but the concentration on her face warned him to stay quiet. “I’ve been an angel and I’ve been a human, and I’ve been in heaven and hell and on earth, and I’ve done terrible things for the right and the wrong reasons. Hell, you even have to ask what gender I feel like every morning. You deserve someone simpler than me.”

Dean stood up quickly, pulling Cas to her feet and looking her straight in the eyes, his expression intense and his grip gentle. “Cas, I’m sure of two things-”

“Bert and Ernie are gay, I know,” Cas rolled her eyes, the corners of her mouth perking

up in spite of herself at the recollection of that night so long ago.

Dean huffed out a laugh. “Okay, three things. The first one is, there is nothing I could ever do to deserve you. Nothing.” Cas started to blush, and Dean knew he was headed in the right direction. “The second thing is that, there is nothing good in this life that is simple, other than pie, maybe, but there are a lot of ingredients you need to make pie, so I’m not so sure that’s simple either.”

“But you like things black and white.” Cas’s half smile was still in place, but the furrow in her brown showed her doubt. Dean shook his head.

“Nothing’s black and white. I used to think that maybe things were, but… I’m older now. And I’ve been to hell, and I’ve been a demon, and I’ve been an angel, and I’ve seen a lot. So everything is a shade of gray. The only things I know for real are that the people around us count a hell of a lot more than anything else. I’ve got a family now. I’ve got someone I love who I can wake up in the morning and ask their gender from the other side of the same bed. That’s better than I ever thought I’d get out of this whole gray mess. The good things aren’t simple. You aren’t simple. Pie isn’t simple.”

Cas was actually truly smiling now, looking up at Dean with a big dimply grin. “Pie isn’t simple.” she muttered. Dean laughed.

“Yeah, I’m glad that’s what you got out of that whole speech.” He scrunched up his face as Cas pecked kiss after kiss on his freckles.

“Do you want to know another certainty, Dean Winchester?”

“What’s that, Cas?”

“I love you.”

Comments: 9/10 A good read. There are not many fics that I have found that have a gender fluid character and seem to have their facts right. (correct me if I am wrong). So that is always a plus. And drag. Need I say more? (I actually went to my first drag show this last semester that my college put on... If you were wondering, it was amazing). I suggest.

Chubby Cas Masterpost

I’ve been going through to fix some links recently, and I realized I never actually created a masterpost for this series, which is prob one of my favorite series I’ve ever written. So, here’s some Chubby Genderfuid Cas falling for All Around Good Guy Athlete Dean . . . in College!!
