I think heated rivalry is making leaps and bounds for reintroducing the endangered straight woman fujoshi to the yaoi ecosystem. The thing is in some of the later seasons, we get these moments where Misha is absolutely acting his ass off, while Jensen is giving us this strangely subdued performance, (notably 12x12 “Stuck in the Middle”), and you can just TELL that it’s because Jensen was thinking to himself, “Don’t be gay, don’t be gay, don’t make this gay.” But the irony is you can FEEL that thought echoing through Dean’s character. Like dude you didn’t make Dean Winchester any LESS gay—you just gave him internalized homophobia. And the whole restrained pining thing honestly makes everything GAYER
