You know what sucks about having a rare ilness/genetic condition?

(aside from the obvious of course)

But...

Doctors visits..

You go to a regular doctor, and you're the first person with that condition they've ever seen.

Sure, they've heard about it, but it was only a side note during their medical studies...

And then you go to a specialist and you're just "one of many"

Last time the specialist said my case was "not that bad" and basically implied that I had no real reason to be there.

That really sucked.

Yes, It could be worse, but I still have my struggles, and I just want to talk about it.

To be understood.

I have never met another person with that condition.

Makes me feel like an alien.

Too much for a regular doctor.

Not enough for the specialist.

I hate it

Update

Turns out I’ve got a genetic defect. MTHFR - a& c to be exact. It could be the cause of a lot of my problems. I have to get off of my BC, get my homocysteine levels checked, and go on methylfolate. I also have to go to geneticist- and there are only two in the whole state! My doctor is checking to see which one takes our insurance.

Rare Blue Lobsters Found in Canadian Waters

Two rare blue lobsters were caught off the shores of Canada in June, 2013 at separate times. According to research based out of the University of Maine, the odds of catching a blue lobster in North America are about one in two million. So what are the odds of catching two separate blue lobsters in North America by two different people in two different places during the same week?

The first blue lobster pictured above, nicknamed 'Coleman', was caught by a fisherman near Port Bass in Newfoundland. It actually wound up at a grocery store in Corner Brook, causing quite a stir. Instead of selling it, the store donated the brilliant blue crustacean to a marine research center for the public to enjoy.

The second blue lobster above was caught by a fisherman near Antigonish in Nova Scotia. The fisherman said at first he didn't know what it was, as it was thrashing about in his trap with seven or eight other lobsters. He told local reporters that he took a few pictures, showed a few friends and then threw it back into the ocean because it was too small to keep.

The blue coloration is caused by a genetic defect that causes the lobster to produce an excessive amount of a particular protein that gives the lobster the unique color.
