Molly Ryan and her brothers grew up across the street from Molly’s best friend, Hannah Dreyfus, and her brother Max. As the Depression lingers on tensions are running high in Toronto, as the Jewish community faces increasing discrimination and hostility. The one thing that seems to unite the citizens of Toronto is baseball. The final night of the season ends in a terrible accident ultimately severing the friendships between the Ryan and Dreyfus families and the love growing between Molly and Max. Max goes on to college to finish his medical training and Molly enrolls in night school. During World War II, Molly’s working her ways up the ranks as a journalist with her humanitarian articles, at a local newspaper. Max and Molly’s brothers all serve in the war, those that survive return home with more than just physical scars. Will Molly be able to help the returning soldiers as she tries to rekindle her friendship with Hannah and Max? This was a fast, easy read that brings to life the Christie Pits Riots in Toronto and the brutality of Japanese prison camps, all while keeping you invested in the lives of Molly and Max.
