Got a new order of teas in this weekend! A collection of Japanese green teas From Ito En: yuzu sencha, genmaicha, hojicha, and chiran sencha (not pictured)
I've had the yuzu sencha and genmaicha so far. The yuzu sencha has an oddly resinous taste about it. Both it and the genmaicha are very savory and almost brothy.
It's odd, because I thought I had had high-ish quality Japanese greens before, but maybe I haven't. I'm getting all sorts of interesting herbal notes, nori, and brussels sprout notes. I do think I understand the notes the Japanese green tea people are going on about. They are obvious.
I'm really excited to try the hojicha. The bag smells almost chocolatey, and the leaf size looks pretty nice. The previous hojicha I bought from a different company I expect to be not nearly as good as this one, so I have to drink up 5 bags first.
(I only ordered from Ito En because their bottled green tea actually tastes like tea, and thus I felt I could trust them. I have since been proven correct.)
