then what is the best way to stay connected in the valley?
Oh goodness there's so many ways. Let's start with my favorite...
1. The Valley Signal Group of Signal Groups! They keep a list of Signal groups in the area ranging a broad spectrum, including events and DIY shows, political activism, housing, exchanges, hobbies, job openings, etc. Theres really a lot going on in there. Joining Signal and WhatsApp groups is the best way I've had to learn about things happening around
2. Go to coffeeshops, bakeries, libraries, and music stores and look at the posters on their bulletin boards.
3. Follow artists and venues on Instagram. (Note: I hate Insta and Zuckers. I only have an Insta for this.) I love live music, so I follow all my local favorite bands along with the venues I know that play music I like. Follow your local theaters, parks, libraries etc.
4. Go to events where people have booths. Pride, popup markets, fairs, block parties, etc. Talk to the people there about what they do. Sign up for their emails.
5. Ask everyone around you for recommendations all the time. People love sharing the cool things theyve found. I found my favorite Mexican place because I told the dude at the hardware store I hadnt found a good one yet. Everyone around you has a lifetime of experience to share, utilize that.
6. Look at signs on the side of the road! Read the big banners people make! 99% of the time theyre from locals and nonprofits. It is so so hard to get word out about an event, even the really cool free ones. Just give em a glance every once in a while.
I'll add more to this post when I think of them. If you know any other good ones, please add them on or send me an ask so I can add them anonymously!
