The Contract of the Salam

Thank Them Later

Abū Huraira reported Allāh's Messenger ﷺ as saying: “Do you know who is the one who is bankrupt?” حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، - وَهُوَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ - عَنِ الْعَلاَءِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏"‏ أَتَدْرُونَ مَا الْمُفْلِسُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

They (the Companions of the Prophet) said: “A poor man amongst us is one who has neither dirham with him nor wealth.” قَالُوا الْمُفْلِسُ فِينَا مَنْ لاَ دِرْهَمَ لَهُ وَلاَ مَتَاعَ ‏.‏

He (the Prophet ﷺ) said: “The bankrupt one from my nation will come on the Day of Judgement فَقَالَ ‏"‏ إِنَّ الْمُفْلِسَ مِنْ أُمَّتِي يَأْتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ

With deeds of prayer, بِصَلاَةٍ

Fasting, وَصِيَامٍ

Zakāt, وَزَكَاةٍ

Yet he comes after having insulted this one, وَيَأْتِي قَدْ شَتَمَ هَذَا

Maligned that one, وَقَذَفَ هَذَا

Taken the money of another, وَأَكَلَ مَالَ هَذَا

Spilled the blood of someone, وَسَفَكَ دَمَ هَذَا

Or hit someone else. وَضَرَبَ هَذَا

So some of his good deeds will be given to this one and that one. فَيُعْطَى هَذَا مِنْ حَسَنَاتِهِ وَهَذَا مِنْ حَسَنَاتِهِ

If no good deeds remain before his account is settled, their bad deeds be taken and cast upon him, فَإِنْ فَنِيَتْ حَسَنَاتُهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُقْضَى مَا عَلَيْهِ أُخِذَ مِنْ خَطَايَاهُمْ فَطُرِحَتْ عَلَيْهِ

Then he will be cast into the Hellfire.” ثُمَّ طُرِحَ فِي النَّارِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏
