love writing men as caretakers. not only because this is such a common role for women it feels exhausting sometimes to insist on it even in fiction, but also when it comes to incest, it feels very interesting.
because parents very often push this role to their children as the family grow. and then, it's not up to the mother, the usual caretaker, to fill this role, but the brother. it's when things start to get messy.
and there's another subvertion: not the older, but the younger being the caretaker. because eldest sons get so neglected once the new baby arrives. and they lose their primarily caretaker, their mother. so it's up to the younger brother to play this role. as the youngest gets all the attention, their attention returns to the older brother instead.
and it can also become such a good conflict in the family dynamic, because seeing it from the eldest child's eyes, they feel forsaken by their mother, but not by their brother, who actively and willingly chose to care for them, when it wasn't their duty to do so.
