Yorktown Ghost Walks. Explore the dark side of Yorktown and learn about the history and hauntings.
On the 22nd of this month, four of us had the please of meeting Mr. Dorian Deathly, the newest Ghost Tour Guides to haunt the streets of York, for his “Deathly by Daylight” tour.
As a friend of mine was visiting York for her birthday, but only for a day trip, we decided to book the witty and hilarious Dorian Deathly to take us on our own private, ghostly tour around the centre of York, and the verdict? Well, he and his stories were absolutely brilliant!
Dorian became well known over the Lockdown period by wandering the streets with his wife, Mrs. Deathly, sharing ghost stories, live over Facebook, gaining hundreds of watchers and followers. From Live tours, came his Tales from the Fireplace, as well as filming live in haunted buildings after hours.
According to Dorian Deathly’s website, the kooky man of spooks has been telling stories for twenty years, half a decade of those roaming the streets of York and six years on the Ghost Bus, something that is on my list of things to do. The “Deathly by Daylight” walking tour lasts for approx 50 to 60 minutes, where he personally takes you for a delightful, little bimble around the old streets of beautiful York, flitting between ghostly tales and friendly banter.
We met Mr. Deathly at Clifford’s Tower, A historic building that is one of the only remaining parts of the York Castle, originally built by William the Conqueror. Straight away, Dorian is welcoming and his bubbly personality shines through the rain. We do our introductions which were then followed by being given our own “The Deathly Spooky Club” badge that was designed by his lovely wife; Mrs. Deathly, as a gift for the first 100 people that join him on his tours. I cheekily ask him if I ring my mum, will he say hello to her as she’s a big fan, to which he gladly agrees to do which made my poor mum blush and fall silent in awe… (Not that she has a schoolgirl crush on him or anything… Of course not…)
He then takes a photo of the four of us, stood in front of the tower itself, with his polaroid camera to give us a little spooky keepsake of the occasion. (The photo itself being an album cover if I ever saw one.)
Once the initial, casual chitchat was over, he told us tales of various ghastly tales and ghostly sightings heard in that particular area before leading us towards Coppergate and the rest of the city, tales that I won’t go into here, he explains them more entertainingly than I do!
All in all, Mr. Deathly is the type of man who would be brilliant fun to have a drink with. He’s a good laugh and shenanigans seem like a likely occurrence in his presence.
His storytelling ways are entertaining and have you listening intently, whether hearing them before or not and his ability to mix his morbid tales with witty jokes and conversations about, well, anything that came into his head was great entertainment.
I highly recommend giving Dorian a follow and like on Facebook as despite no longer doing live tours due to the lockdown becoming lifted, he still will be sharing stories in front of the fireplace and visiting more paranormal spots, and if you can get to York, well, I’d say certainly make sure you add his tours to your things-to-do list.

So you know those ghost walk tours, right? Where you go to cemeteries and haunted houses and stuff at night with a tour guide? So concept: ghost walk tours but with Pokémon Go. Hunting Pokémon at midnight on a moonless night in a cemetery with a group of people would be amazing.
