the white album is such a funny album to me. it opens on a beach boys spoof where paul stuffs as many ussr puns as possible into one rock song about hot women in europe. they have a song called Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da about a lovely couple falling in love and also features paul calling the listener “brah” and the whole song took so long to make it nearly broke up the band. the most boring song for me involves john and children group singing about serial killer Bungalow Bill. paul has one song where over a stomping out of tune guitar he just yells “HONEY PIE!!!!! HONEY PIE!!!!” and it goes for a minute. directly after Blackbird, a beautiful song about the civil rights movement, we get campy baroque music as george harrison puts on an exaggerated posh accent while singing about pigs committing cannibalism as a metaphor for capitalism. RIGHT after that we get an americana folk song from paul about a guy named Rocky Racoon who goes to shoot this guy because he got with a girl he liked and instead HE gets shot and DIES. this is literally how we got the racoon from Guardians of The Galaxy. side 2 starts with a genuinely coked up unhinged rocker happy birthday song that paul is still belting on and makes me feel drunk when i hear it. john lennon has three seperate songs of him having an over the top heroin fueled depressive suicidal rock bottom episode to the sound of 50s rock and blues. the first is a 3 part masterpiece thats sarcastic and spoofs older genres while also being an absolute wordsmith and the third one has him yelling “yes im LONELY!!!! wanna DIE!!!” on repeat. john was too scared to call out the Maharishi (spiritual leader that was just a scam artist) in song so he renamed it Sexy Sadie and its comically serious for a song with that name. paul mccartney helped invent the entire heavy metal genre on a song where he’s over singing about a children’s slide as a metaphor for love. george’s last song is just him singing the names of different chocolates to the grooviest instrumental cause his best friend (who would later steal his wife in a dramatic guitar duel) was eating too much chocolate. the second last song is a 9 minute avant garde sound collage about life in the late 60s Kind Of before going into a genuinely haunting lullaby sung beautifully by ringo and sounds straight out of an old disney film. thats mot even every song on the damn thing. this album is a masterpiece and so much of it because of how little it takes itself seriously and how ridiculous half of this is especially inbetween some of the most devestating songs ive ever heard
