guilt eats her alive each time she visits his grave — guilt because there should have been more than she could have done to stop it, guilt because she doesn’t think about it all the time (she can’t – she wouldn’t be able to work anymore. when she lets grief be a big part of her life it just overwhelms her in a way that prevents her from thinking of anything else). but still she visits, despite the pain that she feels each time she does, because he was — he is — her son. the absolute last thing she expects to see while visiting his grave is, well, him. his ghost. just there. sitting in front of his grave.
