The Ghoul Log

In history, when many would gather together for the winter holidays, they would burn a Yule log. The Church of Samhain sees this as a wonderful tradition to be continued, with an additional element of ooky spookiness.

To prepare a Ghoul Log, gather some strips of paper, a pen, biodegradable ribbon or string (optional), and a log that’s ready to burn. (Feel free to add anything else that suits your fancy, so long as it’s safe to burn).

Go ahead and start your fire and enjoy the ambiance while you prepare the log. When preparing, write out some things you want to see in your new year on the strips of paper. What sort of goals do you have? What milestones do you want to reach? Write them out on the strips of paper and tie them to the log. Add whatever else you’d like, and then prepare to burn it.

Before burning, recite these words to remind yourself of the archetypes of the Monsters and what they represent:

“Like Dracula, my determination shall be undying.

Like Wolfman, the changes I make shall be for the better.

Like Stingy Jack, my ambition will burn through any setbacks.

Like the Creature of the Black Lagoon, my resilience will be upheld in even the murkiest of waters.”

Place the Ghoul Log in the fire and watch as it burns. Allow yourself to become entranced with the flame and visualize your intentions for the coming year.
