Perhaps a harsh question for someone of your profession but… Giggi. Have you ever found yourself fostering them? Personally, i think they’re terrible but then my job isn’t husbandry. The little bastards don’t seem like they need help raising themselves.
Giggis are one of my favorite things to care for because they actually don't need much to thrive - but even then they do sometimes require our assistance as sometimes they're "rescued" by hunters, sold by poachers, relocated due to elder dragon disruptions, environmental disasters ruin their homes, etc, etc.
They're just as alive as any other creature, and that should be respected. They fill an ecological niche that needs to exist to keep the general populace of Baggi, Popo, Anteka, and Bullfango at reasonable levels. These guys rarely leave the caves they inhabit due to the threat of other larger predators.
If you find yourself struggling with a Giggi, be mindful that you could have encroached upon their home - and they have a right to be there. They can be distracted from biting by lightly pinching the section of neck directly behind the main "bulge" of the head, and will be thankful for being deposited in small, wet crevices of caves and sometimes shaded ponds. They're rather reclusive at this stage, and easily pacified if you know what you're doing.
This all said - if you find one in trouble that cannot be immediately rectifed and want to help it:
Buckets or large watertight baskets are your best friend - fill the bottom with an inch of water to keep the Giggi moist during transportation and cover the top as best you can to keep the container dark.
If the Giggi is uninjured or sick, feel free to deposit them in cold cave systems in the frozen tundra; their natural habitat.
If the Giggi is in need of medical attention: take it immediately to a Guild provided rescue station - or come to us directly, we’ll be happy to take them in.
Hope this helps clears up some misconceptions about Giggis and Gigginox.
Monster May, Day 03: The Vampire
"Off the top of my head, I'd say the strongest monster I've seen captured by poachers was a Furious Rajang.
They somehow lured it into an ingenious trap, restraining it in a cage made of Dragon bones and spikes to keep it from moving. Then they sold it for a fortune to another person – an old mad physicist who needed the beast for his experiments.
Once moved in the scientist's hideout, the Monster was connected to a machine that was supposed to harness the electricity within its body. According to his notes, the old man wanted to turn the Rajang into a giant live battery. And honestly it could have worked. The fun part is that, when he activated the machine, it received such an extraordinary amount of energy that it immediately exploded and killed the scientist in the burst.
The Rajang was lucky that we found it only two days later, else who knows how long it would have been stuck there... Though, as you can guess, it didn't seem particularly grateful when we came to free it. Thankfully we took precautions and a good load of tranquilizers.
As for the weirdest monster? There was a poacher in a completely different place who raised Giggi larvae in his basement...
To this day I still have no idea what he wanted to do with them – and I'm not sure I want to know – but in any case, he took care of them pretty well somehow."
MH Monsters: Gigginox
Type: FlyWyv
“Wyverns that inhabit the Tundra. Gigginox live in darkness and thus have degraded vision; they detect prey via body heat, then attack with poison. When excited, their color changes and parts of their body harden. Extremely fertile, laying innumerable eggs.”- Hunter’s Notes, MH3U
