Summary: Gimli loves Legolas, and Legolas loves Gimli. Their biggest problem is how incredibly weird dwarf food is. Except when elf food is even weirder.
Rice Pudding
Legolas says it’s a texture thing, as if that explains everything.
Sometimes, Gimli thinks, his elf is undeniably confusing. Beautiful, yes, and sweet and thoughtful and oh so much fun in bed, but confusing all the same.
“What does that mean?” Gimli asks patiently.
“It’s the texture,” says Legolas, wrinkling his nose and making a vague hand wave. “It’s all… oogie.”
“Oogie,” Gimli repeats, trying to be patient. Legolas has never had much of a way with words, and Gimli knows his lack of eloquence embarrasses him. But sometimes Legolas says things that make it even harder to understand him.
“You know,” says Legolas, clenching and rubbing his fingers. “It starts out all like squish but then there’s chewy bits and it’s just like… ewww.”
“I’m sorry lad, you’ve lost me.”
“It feels like…” Legolas pauses and gathers his thoughts. “It’s like frog eggs. Squishy for the most part but with chewy bits.”
“I find it hard to believe you’ve eaten frog legs.”
“Euugh, no, I could never,” says Legolas. “But it’s like what I imagine frog eggs would feel like in my mouth if I did eat them.”
Gimli raises his eyebrows and stares at Legolas. The elf looks away and starts to blush, and then squirms in his seat.
“I’m sorry,” Legolas says. “It’s just - it’s a texture thing, I’m sorry I know it’s important to you, I’ll try to eat it --”
“Nah, it’s fine,” says Gimli, pulling his own bowl closer. “If you don’t like my mum’s secret rice pudding recipe that just means there’s more for me. I’d just prefer it if, in the future, you didn’t compare it to frogs’ eggs.”

Sushi
“But it’s raw,” says Gimli, staring at the plate in front of him. “It literally hasn’t been cooked. That can’t be healthy.”
Legolas shrugs and pops a bite into his mouth with his fingers. “Yeah, sometimes people get food poisoning,” he says. “But only if you’re being stupid about it.”
“You’re telling me people get food poisoning from this and you still eat it?”
Legolas rolls his eyes. “People get food poisoning from milk that’s gone bad.”
“Yeah, and I think that’s bonkers, too.”
“You make all kinds of food with milk in it.”
“Yeah, milk in it. Not all on it’s own like a weirdo elf.”
“It tastes good,” says Legolas. “And so does sushi.”
“I repeat; it’s raw, and people sometimes get food poisoning from it.”
“If you get it fresh and it’s been kept on ice it’s fine, Gimli.”
“I’m not putting raw fish into my mouth no matter what you say.” Gimli crosses his arms.
“You realize you’ll go hungry at Father’s banquet tomorrow night, right? That’s all he’ll be serving.”
“Lad, I’d rather starve.”

Lutefisk
“You won’t eat raw fish but you’ll eat this… this… abomination?”
Gimli snorts. “It’s good,” he says.
“How can you even stand the smell?”
“Well, it tastes much better than it smells,” Gimli admits, eating another forkful.
“I would imagine the smell would be overpowering.”
“The sauce makes up for it.”
“Also, it’s wobbly.”
Gimli sighs. “This is another texture thing, isn’t it.”
“Gimli, love, it’s an everything thing.”
Gimli shrugs and eats some more. “At least you’ll be luckier than me. Dad’ll be serving potatoes and some other sides at dinner tomorrow.”
“Yippee.”
--
Escargot
“I would have thought this would be a texture thing,” says Gimli. “I mean, it would certainly be a texture thing for me.”
Legolas happily grabs a shell and slurps it down. “A little chewy, but I don’t mind if it’s all chewy,” he says. “Besides, it tastes delicious.”
Gimli shakes his head and glares at the snail on the plate in front of him. “It spends it’s life covered in slime,” he says. “Crawling around on dirt and leaves. Mahal even knows what it eats. And you call it delicious?”
“Well, honestly, it’s mostly a vehicle for the garlic and butter.”
Gimli shakes his head, watching as Legolas happily slurps down another few. “Nope,” he mutters. “Not even trying it.”

Tuna Eyeballs
“This is even worse than sushi,” groans Gimli, as he stares down at the dinner that is, unquestionably, staring back at him.
Legolas glances down at his own plate and sort of swallows hard. “If you plug your nose and swallow it as fast as possible it’s less awful.”
Gimli glances up. “Wait, you don’t even like it?”
“It’s an eyeball, Gimli. I don’t know why anyone likes it. But it’s traditional wedding food.”
“Lemme guess - this is a texture thing, too, eh?”
Legolas grimaces. “That too,” he mutters, spearing his eyeball with a fork and slicing into it. “I wouldn’t eat it if I didn’t have to.”
“It’s our wedding,” mutters Gimli under his beard, but he pierces the offending dish as well. “We shouldn’t have to eat stuff we don’t want to.”
“Just be quiet and eat a little bit as quickly as possible.”
The two of them both lift fork to mouth and gulp the fish eyeball down quickly. It’s not completely horrible, Gimli decides, but he never, ever wants to eat it again.
“That was awful,” he mutters.
Legolas nods. “But guess what?” he says. “We’re married.”
Gimli grins up at his thoroughly ridiculous elf. “That we are,” he says, gently taking Legolas’s hand. “That we are.”
Prompt: Day 4: “I always thought I would go first.”

Summary:
It is said that the Blessed Realm heals all hurts of body and soul. This is true for the most part, but some days are unlike others.
Some days, the memories cut to the quick.
Ha! I did get a short thing written for Gigolas Week after all. This is for the Day 7 prompt: Aman/The West, and guess what? It’s sad as all fuck. (And contains a fair amount of dwarf-worship, but hey, it is Legolas’ POV.)
