Merlin rewatch -- S3E11: The Sorcerer’s Shadow

Gorgeous scene. This was for a long time the Merlin scene for me. It's what I remembered the character of Merlin by.

Merlin was so mature and self-assured. So attractive. The power he emitted while still being humble and compassionate was amazing.

"It's lonely."

This single line encompassed Merlin's years of sadness. Colin delivered it so well. The way he tried to shrug it off at first, playing it lightly, but then made those gentle nods as if to make sure Gilli understand the depth of his words completely.

And there were those long pauses, the wandering eyes and sounds choking in his throat. He wasn't used to saying these things and needed time to get the right words, but also, his emotion was so full he was doing everything to keep it in check. His voice was hoarse and tears were welling up in his eyes. It's so gorgeous. And he reined it in this entire scene! Just the perfect amount of wetness in his eyes.

And Gilli's single tear... Harry Melling was so good...

I love how he nodded along with Merlin’s words almost unconsciously, and Merlin nodded to him in return. So subtle and quiet and showing beautiful understanding.

They might have led to separate conclusions later, but at this moment they shared the pain and saw themselves in the other person. It's beautiful regardless of the latter disagreement.

ok sorry for sending u more BUT i think a lot abt how rick and daryl first get together with u and i just imagine daryl being so observant and noticing your crush on rick immediately. seeing the way your eyes get all wide with a desire to please him whenever he talks to you, hears the eagerness in your voice when you say “hey Rick!” and knows exactly what’s going through your head when you say “yessir” in a rush whenever he tells you what to do

but since he’s a bit insecure and doesn’t really consider you showing any interest in him, he doesn’t think anything of the way your breath hitches when he teasingly calls you “sunshine” or “sweetheart” or “princess”, or the way you light up when he says “attagirl”

so at first when rick first comes to him and amusedly remarks about the crush you have on both of them daryl is like “nah, it ain’t like that.” But after rick points everything you do out to him it finally clicks

and idk i can just picture them talking about you so casually and shit?? especially rick. him grinning as he comments about you being cute/sweet, asking daryl if he wants you or if they can share and only being half joking

"sweet girl," rick nods to where you're hanging wet clothes up to dry, popping a berry into his mouth as he watches daryl—who's looking at you so intensely he's surprised you haven't caught on fire yet.

daryl clears his throat, suddenly very interested in the rabbit he was skinning before he got distracted. "i guess."

"eager to please." this time daryl looks up, and he finds the trace of a shit eating grin on his friend's face. rick lets out a rough laugh, "what, you're gonna tell me you haven't noticed?"

"she's young," daryl grunts, eyes flickering towards you before they go back to the rabbit. "gonna get eaten alive if she doesn't wise up."

rick hums, shrugging. "I don't know, man. there's something about her."

"yeah, she's a pretty little thing," the corner of daryl's lips twitch slightly just as his knife digs into his catch. "that's the something about her, you're just thinking with your dick."

rick doesn't reply right away, but he lets his mouth curl and suddenly they're both staring at you from across the clearing, eyes dark and lips quirked. you look up from the laundry, tucking some unruly hair behind your ear, when you catch their eyes. you wave shyly, sweet smile on your face.

they wave back, and then one of them sighs, "are we taking turns or taking her together?"

Gilli: The you understand why I have to fight. If Uther is killed, so what? How many of our kind have died at his hands? How many more will? It's time those with magic fought back.

Merlin: Gilli-

Gilli: You can't tell me what to do!

Merlin: You need to learn to use your magic for good. That is its true purpose. It's not meant for your own vanity.

Gilli: I'm not gonna apologise for who I am! You can be a servant and pretend you're less than them, but I'm not-

Merlin: No that's not what I do!

Gilli: No? You're defending the king, protecting a man that would have you dead

Merlin: I'm protecting you!

Gilli: You've been pretending for so long now that youce actually forgotten who you are

Merlin: That's not true

Gilli: Isn't it?

Merlin: No.

Gilli: It's time someone struck a blow for the likes of you and me. And if you're too weak, then I will.
