I shipped Mercelot bc Lancelot might be the only person (other than Gaius) to truly see and love Merlin for what he is and I ship Mergana because they're probably the only two person who truly understand each other down to every pains and bone but can never see eye to eye.

wild to me that there is not more mercelot fic!!! I get that the banishing and dying sort of kill the momentum of their dynamic as a ship but god the stuff that’s there in the limited time they share is sooooo good !!!!!! like Lance is the only one who Merlin can genuinely truly confide in !!! Lancelot sees it as his duty to protect Merlin because he knows just how self sacrificing Merlin is and wants to prevent it !!! Merlin is the first friend Lance makes and he basically hands him his dreams on a silver platter because he thinks it’s the right thing to do !!! Likeee where are my no banishment canon rewrites where Lancelot tags along for all of Merlin’s Insane magical side quests??? Imagine Lancelot suggesting reasonable or even competent plans, that aren’t just ‘directly confront everyone you think is suspicious in the hopes they will reveal themselves and vindicate you before you get imprisoned or killed’ !!!! Imagine it !!! And it works on so many levels to me like the Lance/Gwen and Merlin/Arthur of it all ???? You and your best friend are both in love with one half of a couple who you have to be around all the time every day and it’s awful and heart breaking so you turn to each other for comfort, but quickly you realise that so many of the traits you love in Arthur/Gwen are traits that Lance/Merlin also have !!! Like that’s soooo delicious, where are the friends to lovers slow burn 100k canon rewrites !!! I need everybody to get on board and start writing ASAP (including me but watch this space)

Dont get me wrong, I absolutely ship Mercelot & Lance w Gwen but all these videos on tt saying both of Lancelot's love interests chose Arthur over him and all he could do was watch AIDJEHXIMGGG omfg this might be my first yumeship, forget abt them, I'll treat u sm better, IF I WAS ONE OF THEM I WOULDN'T DO U LIKE THIS🙏🙏 The series acc did my boy so dirty wtf

what actually KILLS me about mercelot is that both of them thought the "more (important) than anything" thing was about their respective loves for arthur and gwen. and they aren't exactly wrong! they DO love them but. buuuuuuuuuuuut. and this is when i lose it. they'd become SO IMPORTANT to each other in the past year, and were already so special to each other before that (lancelot knew everything about merlin and kept his secret and was his ride or die; merlin was the ONLY ONE who reached out to lancelot after everything) but the larger than life, idealistic feelings surrounding their relationships to arthur and gwen (respectively) eclipsed that, and it did that because for a year they had each other. they were constantly together. you cannot miss what you have by your side. they were intimate in all the ways that matter. lancelot is SO IN SYNC with merlin: he's always the first to reach him when merlin is down. the level of awareness lancelot has of merlin's place in space... the implications of it. and merlin confides in lancelot, tells him everything: every thought, every doubt, every plan. he's soooo happy before the veil was teared down. he has a friend with whom he can be himself! a friend that supports him, doesn't constantly berate him for how he uses his magic (coughgaiuscough) and even encourages him to use it for menial tasks like dealing with a stain. lancelot is fiercely loyal to merlin and IT DOESNT MATTER that he has to lie to arthur's face because in truth, lets face it, his loyalty to arthur and camelot come second. his love for gwen lighted the way at the lowest point of his life, and he gave that up because he thought it was the right thing to do; and he lost her, and gwen kinda moved on, and lancelot was moving on, too. but both merlin and lancelot were hung up on the longing-- merlin, on wanting arthur to see him as he was, and lancelot, mourning what he'd lost with gwen. but all through that they were glued to each other, no one questioned lancelot following merlin everywhere because it was already a thing by the time of the darkest hour. it is the most simple and honest love, a kind of peace and comfort that goes unremarked until is lost. and they didn't know until it was too late.
