Hi, Naveen Shouldn't have Toxtricity In Mega Dimension. Here's Why.
What's popping internet it's your favourite annoying Naveen fan continuing to be annoying about Naveen.
So I made a post a while ago about Naveen's team and how cool I think it is that his team ties back one way or another to his fashion designing.
(I recommend you check that one out here first and then come back to this.)
AND THEN ALONG CAME MEGA DIMENSION
So Mega Dimension gave Lida and Naveen an extra Pokémon to round out their team to the maximum 6!
i dont know if they did this for any other side character and frankly i do not care.
Lida got Tatsiguri which makes a lot of sense considering she's a Water type specialist! They could've gone with something a lot better imo but it's not the worst idea in the world.
So pray tell readers! What did they give Naveen, a character with a somewhat solid team in terms of tying to his fashion designing/sewing?
toxtricity.
fucking.
TOXTRICITY.
Now I consider myself to be a very big Naveen fan. I know his team off by heart, I've made multiple posts analysing him and his behaviour, I've made multiple headcanons for him and I even made a god damn OC for his little sister.
So I could not tell you for the life of me WHY Game Freak gave him this Pokémon.
I will say I think it's good that they gave him the Low-key form and not Amped because it fits him way better and I would've had more of a fit if it was Amped, but I still don't get it. Naveen has never shown interest in music, let alone guitar and it goes directly against his "Dark type speciality" (note the quotation marks.)
"But Gin what about Ariados??"
1. Read my Naveen team "analysis".
2. We'll Get To That. Hold On.
Maybe it's because they both have resting bitch face and/or are very chill??
That's really not a good reason though.
I do have another theory, but we'll wait for that, alright?
So! If I'm "sUcH a BiG nAvEeN fAn" what do I think Naveen should have instead?
mimikyu.
AND LET ME TELL YOU WHY.
1 - Themeing
Now, on the surface, Mimikyu doesn't seem like it'd fit on Naveen's team. However that's what a person who isn't incredibly insane about Naveen would say, Mimikyu could absolutely work specifically because of the rag it uses to pretend to be a Pikachu.
I originally thought it made the rag itself (probably because of something I saw from the anime) but after skimming it's Dex entries I couldn't find any entry that outright confirmed this, but multiple Dex entries of it's Busted form say that it repairs the disguise by itself when it's broken (albeit it is very hard for it to do) so I don't think it's too far-fetched for it to make the disguise itself!
So how does this tie back to Naveen?
Well Naveen would likely take an interest in this Pokémon because of his sewing. A Pokémon making - or at least using - a disguise for itself? And being able to fix it? How would that not interest him?? Plus, he could help fix the disguise himself (insert that one scene from the anime where Jessie fixes her Mimikyu's disguise when it breaks) and even make some more disguises for it if it so desired!
2 - Dual Type Specialist
Now this is very much a me thing but listen up.
Here are the types for Naveen's team-
Scrafty - Dark/Fighting
Ariados - Bug/Poison
Sableye - Dark/Ghost
Krookodile - Ground/Dark
Aegislash - Steel/Ghost
Notice something?
Most of Naveen's Pokémon have either Ghost or Dark typings
And if we add Mimikyu, a Ghost/Fairy type...
Naveen has 3 Dark Types and 3 Ghost types, practically making him a dual Dark/Ghost type specialist!
(yeah i guess you could make the argument that hes technically a triad specialist because toxtricity is poison so hed have two poison two ghost and three dark but also he still has more dark types so dark type takes more priority and also i still hate the decision to add toxtricity.)
(and yes i know gwynn is a ghost specialist but this is about naveen shut up.)
"But Gin what about Ariados??" I hear you ask. again.
The thing is, I give Ariados a pass for the same reason I think Mimikyu would be a good fit: because it fits the theme. I go somewhat more in depth in the team "analysis", but basically it can make thread that's good for sewing, which is why it gets the pass.
Besides, this is PLZA, SO MANY "type specialists" have dud Pokémon. Corbeau? Barbaracle. Jacinthe? Aurorus. Lida, a fellow Team MZ member? Emolga and Vanilluxe.
Also wouldn't that just be so fucking cool?? A dual type specialist?? That's probably been done before but like...come onn!!!
3 - Character Growth
Naveen is shown to be scared of Ghost Pokémon, or specifically Banette but it seems to be implied that he's scared of Ghosts in general.
...despite literally having two ghost types.
sure whatever i dont care anymore.
ANYWAYS by catching a Mimikyu, a Ghost type (and also becoming a dual Dark/Ghost specialist), it could show character growth that he's learning to not be as scared of ghosts!
And I mean...you could argue that for his other two ghost mons but its shown that he's still scared of ghosts in the dlc because of that clip i just posted.
(and before anyone asks, its never stated when naveen or lida get their dlc pokemon, but you first see them in the dlc post game when they battle you in their side quests so for the sake of my argument, let's say naveen got mimikyu some time after the gulpin encounter)
From being scared of a Banette to being a dual specialist...idk that would be cool!
I also had a point about type coverage but I realised you can make that exact same point with Aegislash.
But!! I do have some other ideas for Naveen's sixth member!!
Now getting non-DLC Pokémon out the way because I know some people will suggest some. There are likely plenty of non-ZA Pokémon I could discuss for Naveen, but we ALL know what Pokémon he would have out of the non-DLC mons.
Leavanny.
Come ON!! It does all the things Toxtricity does but FOR A GOOD REASON
resting bitch face? (at least as swadloon) Check!
Not fitting with his type speciality? Check!
However, the thing that saves it?
IT LITERALLY MAKES CLOTHES FOR POKÉMON.
IT'S WHOLE THING.
IS THAT IT MAKES.
CLOTHES.
naveen would have this no questions asked if it was in the dlc you can't convince me otherwise.
Now onto Pokémon actually in the DLC. I skimmed the whole Hyperspace Dex and excluding legendaries and mythicals, I came to a couple of conclusions, however these conclusions don't have as many points as Leavanny or Mimikyu, so yeah.
1: Morpeko
This is going off of my second theory I had for why Naveen has Toxtricity, that being because Canari, his favourite streamer, is an Electric type specialist.
Thing is, they could've have done this while keeping his type speciality because Morpeko. is. an Electric/Dark type.
(also if side characters got DLC Pokémon this would literally be the perfect Pokémon to give Canari lol)
Funnily enough, Lucille (my OC for Naveen's little sister) gets a Morpeko! I'd love to talk more about Lucille's team but that's a post for another day.
also i like morpeko.
2. Swalot
Only because of the Gulpin encounter in the DLC. I thought it'd be funny if he caught one. This is probably my weakest one to be honest but it's somehow stronger than fucking Toxtricity.
3. Grafaiai
please hear me out.
This was originally my first pick before Mimikyu because of its whole painting thing. Naveen clearly has an eye for art even if he's a fashion designer first; he has sketchbooks for his designs and the designs we do see are nothing to scoff at - he clearly puts passion and creative integrity into them!!
Even if it doesn't make sense from a gameplay perspective, I think Naveen personally would like a Grafaiai around to help him with designs.
(this could also go for smeargle if it was in the dlc btw)
Tl;dr: there are so many pokemon that could've been a better fit for naveen than fucking toxtricity.
These games will be the thing that forces me to learn how to draw because urghhhhh. Lmao, writing isn't enough. Am I gonna suck for a while? Yep but it's part of the process.
When was the last time a media series spawned like 3 different OTPs for me? Basically never! Here I am though. (I'm excluding Phoenix/Edgeworth because, let's be real, that's essentially canon.)
First up, is an idea for a Kazuma/Ryunosuke nsfw oral drawing... That is also shaping up to want to spawn a short comic...
Saying hello with some spb!Mattbalt to your ask form as I’m not sure if you’ve seen this photo
Well, to tell the truth, I have not yet, thank you :>. Sadly, I don't really know where I could find more spb!résj related content, except for the actors own Instagram page and occasionally Tumblr T^T.
But why are they so adorable, AAA *explodes* (definitely going to use this picture as a reference photo/inspiration to draw their Hungarian counterpart one day)
Might lose followers for this but I want to get something off my chest so lemme just ramble for a bit. I feel like the idea of liking larger bodies but being uncomfortable gaining weight yourself should be valid?? The idea that you should like something on someone else and feel the same way about it on yourself is kind of bullshit. Don’t get me wrong, I get where the argument comes from, a place of self love and acceptance, especially when it comes to unlearning the guilt that comes with being heavier in a society with so much stigma surrounding overweight individuals. However, people should be able to say whether or not they like a certain quality on themselves while still loving that quality on someone else.
I myself am more of a fit/muscular figure. (I’m physically active and I like healthy foods, sue me) and I’m, (obviously) into the big boys. I think the body I have now just suits me, and I like the way I look ( + I do not have the body weight distribution to look as sexy as other fat people I’ve seen, lets be real) and that’s OK. Say someone loves dark hair (I’m projecting) but they don’t like that particular color on themselves. I don’t believe that counts as internalized hatred or guilt, though it def can in some people but that’s not who I’m talking about.
Anyways I just think we should be able to do whatever we feel most comfortable with cause that’s all that matters. If anyone wants to discourse w me about this I’m totally open to discussion~
a few days ago I finished my second novel, and the one I'm using for my MFA program. I don't want to get into details on my fandom account, but I will say this book is my ode to the Geraskier ship tropes and how well they CAN work in a fantasy setting. It feels REALLY good to have it done, though there is still a long way to go.
I'm still insanely busy (right now I have a Mon-Fri job and a Sat-Sun job, plus grad school classes, yikes) but I am hoping I can get into some actual Geraskier fanfic at some point too. Because those two DO deserve their own happy ending.
