These stuffed calamari onigiri combine the crispy texture of fried calamari with the savory goodness of sushi rice, creating a delicious and satisfying snack or appetizer. The filling is seasoned with soy sauce, mirin, sesame oil, ginger, and green onions, adding layers of flavor to each bite.
Ingredients: 2 large calamari tubes, cleaned and sliced into rings. 1 cup sushi rice, cooked. 2 tablespoons soy sauce. 1 tablespoon mirin. 1 tablespoon sesame oil. 1 tablespoon grated ginger. 1 tablespoon chopped green onions. 1/4 cup breadcrumbs. Salt and pepper to taste. Vegetable oil for frying.
Instructions: In a bowl, mix together cooked sushi rice, soy sauce, mirin, sesame oil, grated ginger, chopped green onions, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper. Stuff each calamari ring with the rice mixture, ensuring they are filled but not overflowing. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Carefully place stuffed calamari rings into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove the stuffed calamari from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve the stuffed calamari onigiri warm with soy sauce for dipping.
