inktober day 29 - double 👻👻 my pokeoc boo (with her gastly) meeting my ghost-hunting (/punting) oc ginna (with her sole ghost friend jimmy).
game night at the mcguiness house!! (prompt from here)
family (& other relations) tree for ‘ginna ghosteye’
So picking up where I left off last week! With more OCs. With yet ANOTHER insane bastard of a family tree.
WHY 🔨💥 AM 🔨💥 I 🔨💥 LIKE 🔨💥 THIS 🔨💥
(As you can tell, it’s fucking preposterous. But most families- er, family trees usually are.)
Ginna Ghosteye is my baby. Out of all the stories, characters, plots, whatever, this is the one that I actually have bothered to put the most effort into. Which, given my natural lazy nature, is saying a lot. To put it extremely simply: this is the story of a foul-mouthed, immature, community college dropout who can see ghosts, and has been tasked to guide these trouble-making spirits into the afterlife of their choosing. Sometimes it’s easy enough, other times it’s fight night. To make things even more difficult, demons, the Jersey Devil, and various gods dip their supernatural fingers into the mix. Because this is New Jersey, and everything in a pain in the ass.
So let’s break it down a bit. 👏
Here we have two trees. This is actually going to be fleshed out more in a side-story, which I’m calling Blue Dahlia for now. Without spoiling much, the legend of the Jersey Devil plays a large role in this particular storyline.
The red line with slashes indicates “murder”, so have fun with that!
Mr. F. Stein is a golem, created by Shoshana. I’ve decided to use the triangle to indicate a supernatural creature who has a contract of some sort with a human. This symbol will come up again! Shoshana butts heads with our titular Ginna a lot. She has a strong sense of justice and doing things right- whereas Ginna… does not. They live in the same neighborhood, but did not go to the same school system.
Here’s the complicated part. It was complicated trying to show the relations, but I think it’ll make more sense with an Actual Textual Explanation.
Ginna and her younger brother Patrick are both adopted. Whereas Ginna’s birth parents died while she was a baby, Patrick has the luxury of remembering who his mother was. Their adoptive parents are ridiculously wealthy. I’m talking multi-billionaire. Here’s one of their neighbors.
Of course, when you’re a multi-billionaire, you’re off travelling and doing other things that don’t include playing babysitter. So Mr. & Mrs. McGuiness are hardly around.
Ginna has a mysterious contract between Snorri (a talking crow) and Blindeye (a homeless dude who just chills out in the woods).
She also has a secret contract with Jimmy, a ghost to whom she owes something to…
Patrick, while not possessing the ability to see ghosts, does possess a valid drivers license, and a car. He tags along with his sister so she doesn’t accidentally end up killing herself / because it’s more fun than homework.
Patrick’s girlfriend Francesca also cannot see ghosts and doesn’t want to. She’s big on prayer and thinks that Ginna will lead Patrick down the wrong path. She’s big into Mariology.
Zahed is their ‘uncle’ who lives with them. He likes computers, and dislikes children. He mostly keeps to himself.
Gormlaith was their non-nonsense Scottish grandmother who recently passed away. She currently haunts any room Ginna is in, while doing some afterlife doting on Patrick.
Orange names also denote supernatural creatures. Here’s Tony, a vampire who was turned in the 1920s, and his girlfriend, Kathleen*, a werewolf who was turned in the 1960s. Both of them are pretty friendly with Ginna, as her main concern is with ghosts, and not with vampires or werewolves.
*no relation to the other McGuiness family.
More supernaturals!! Prosperina (also occasionally goes by Prosperity) is a missing fae whose equivalent human age is 12.5- and it’s faerly obvious. She usually hangs out with Agesander, a Fucking Creep. Prosperity's older sibling has an unpronounceable name, so they just go by Kid. Kid recruits Ginna to help find Prosperity so they can both go back home.
This particular storyline would serve as an introduction to Ginna, and the whole weird world in which she occupies.
